Tušina combines sacred history with a memorial museum in a 19th-century house. Hosts offer insights into nature experiences and homemade products; tea tasting is seasonal.

Podmalinsko Monastery and its history

Podmalinsko Monastery is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. According to tradition, it was founded by King Uroš I around 1252. The monastery has been undergoing restoration since 1998. Its courtyard contains the grave of Mirko Aleksić, a notable Drobnjak hero. In the wider destination of Šavnik, Podmalinsko is one of the municipality’s most significant examples of sacred architecture.

The monastery is three kilometres from Tušina. Its dedication, traditional founding story and grave provide different historical points of reference for a visit. If you are interested in religious heritage, Podmalinsko offers a specific focus; the memorial museum in Tušina complements it with a different story, more closely connected to an individual and their surroundings.

The Novice Cerović House

The Novice Cerović House in Tušina dates from the 19th century and houses a memorial museum. It preserves a fully intact room interior, along with decorations and medals associated with Montenegro’s first honorary ban. The house thus focuses both on its historic living space and on its mementos.

For orientation: The house is next to the Boan–Šavnik road, near the Church of St. George. Together with the monastery, it offers a cultural contrast: Podmalinsko points to the history and traditions of sacred architecture, while the memorial museum tells its story through a preserved interior and personal mementos.

Host offerings, tea and the river

Hosts in a Tušina household can show visitors hidden waterfalls and natural pools. Arrange the details before your trip. A Tušina household can also organise a tour to a nearby pond, where freshly caught fish is prepared together; advance arrangements are recommended for this as well. The two options offer different experiences: one focuses on nature, the other on preparing the catch together.

The Ćirović family household makes homemade rakija, juices, jams and liqueurs from fruit grown on its own property. Harvested tea is also dried and offered to visitors for tasting in summer. Since this tasting is seasonal, confirm availability in advance.

The wider natural surroundings of Šavnik

In the wider destination of Šavnik, Dragišnica and Komarnica Nature Park lies in the municipality’s far northwest. It covers 2,994 hectares. The Dragišnica forest complex is located on the southern slopes of Durmitor, within the park. Visitors can explore mountain landscapes, canyon valleys and gorges there. Hiking options range from easily accessible walking trails to mountain ascents reaching almost 2,000 metres; there are more than 20 mountain and hiking trails, and this number may change.

Nevidio Gorge is also in the nature park. It was first traversed in its entirety in 1965, after remaining long unknown and impassable to people. Today, it is an adventure tourism destination: narrow passages, high rock walls, clear water and natural pools characterise the gorge. Skakavica is a seasonal waterfall about 80 metres high, which becomes active during snowmelt and heavy rain. These natural attractions are part of the wider destination of Šavnik, not of the offerings in Tušina.
