Pošćenje: Nature, Nevidio Canyon and Stećci

Pošćenje brings together landscapes, outdoor activities and local cultural traces. The Pošćenje Lakes, a waterfall in the village and Nevidio Canyon offer different ways to experience nature; medieval stećci can also be found in the village cemetery. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between activities by type and time required.

Location and accommodation

Eco Village Nevidio is located in Pošćenje, 450 metres from the main road connecting the Bay of Kotor to Belgrade via Žabljak. Eco Village is the last stop before Nevidio Canyon. This clearly establishes the village’s location and the provider’s position along the main road.

Accommodation at Eco Village Nevidio consists of nine mountain huts. Depending on their size, they accommodate four or six guests.

Landscape and protected surroundings

The scenic Pošćenje Lakes contribute to Pošćenje’s distinctive character; there is also a waterfall in the village. To the north, the Grabovica joins the Komarnica about 1.5 kilometres from Pošćenje. Brown trout and grayling are found in the Komarnica. The lakes, waterfall and river landscape therefore offer different points of reference for experiencing the area’s natural environment.

Dragišnica and Komarnica Nature Park overlaps with the cadastral area of Pošćenje. The protected area is classified as Category III under Montenegro’s national regulations. This protected-area designation adds a distinct natural context to the local landscape.

Hiking, cycling and canyoning

Nevidio Canyon is located in Pošćenje. Allow three to four hours in general to traverse the canyon; the duration depends on the water level and the group’s fitness. Eco Village Nevidio also offers a three-hour guided Nevidio canyoning route. This specific tour duration is in addition to the general time required to traverse the canyon. Canyoning in Nevidio should be undertaken with an experienced guide and suitable equipment.

Another activity with a specified duration is the two-hour Village Hiking Route offered by Eco Village Nevidio. Its duration is shorter than the general time required to traverse the canyon; however, these are different activities. This allows you to plan around the time available without treating the two offerings as equivalent.

Mountain biking is also offered by Eco Village Nevidio: bicycles are available to rent, and mapped mountain bike trails are provided. The provider’s activities and services may change. Check which tours and services are currently available before making plans.

Stećci in the village cemetery

The village cemetery in Pošćenje contains stećci, medieval tombstones. Visitors can see a displaced, elongated chest-shaped stećak with unusual ornamentation. This detail makes the cemetery a cultural point of interest alongside the village’s natural and activity-related attractions.
