Historical associations in Berislavci
Berislavci is associated with a medieval court of Jelena and Balša III. Nearby Ivan-polje is linked to Ivan Crnojević; Dvorišta is associated with the former courts of earlier rulers. These historical associations therefore lead to several places and different ruling contexts, which are best considered separately.
The church on Valezi is also located in Berislavci. If you include it in your travel plans, check its condition and access locally. Nearby, by Berislavci, lies Plavnica, with a waterfront visitor complex. It includes waterfront promenades, landscaped park areas and other visitor facilities. As facilities and access may change, it is advisable to check current conditions before visiting.
The local history, the church and the nearby waterfront complex each offer a different focus: historical associations in Berislavci, a named landmark in the town, and a waterside visitor area in Plavnica. If you are looking for hotels in Berislavci, these distinctions can help you organise your travel interests.
Podgorica: separate cultural attractions and excursions
In the wider destination of Podgorica, the Old Town has its own historical context. During the Ottoman period, from 1474 to 1879, it was Podgorica’s historic core. Urban and architectural forms, customs, ways of life and oriental features shaped this area. Visitors can stroll along its cobbled streets. The Clock Tower on Bećir-beg-Osmanagić Square is a landmark of the Old Town; Hadži Mehmed-paša Osmanagić had it built in the 18th century.
An old stone bridge stands where the Ribnica meets the Morača. It is said to date from Roman times and is considered Podgorica’s oldest bridge. Sastavci and the stone bridge are a popular riverside meeting place where people enjoy the natural surroundings. The remains of ancient Doclea offer a glimpse into a different period: they date from the first decade of the 1st century AD and lie four kilometres from the centre of Podgorica on a broad plateau between the Morača, Zeta and Širijana rivers. Burial finds from Doclea—including ceramic and glass vessels, jewellery, tools, weapons and coins—form part of the permanent exhibition at the City Museum.
Architecture, art and landscape
The Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ also stands out for its specific architectural features: its two pyramid-shaped towers are each 26.7 metres high and together house 17 bells on their upper floors. The heaviest weighs 11 tonnes and is considered the largest on the Balkan Peninsula. The Petrović Palace is located in the Kruševac complex, in Kruševac Park on the Morača. The palace was a former residence of the Petrović dynasty.
Two institutions offer different points of interest for art lovers. The Modern Gallery displays works illustrating the development of modern art, as well as important artistic movements and influences in Montenegro’s art scene during the second half of the 20th century. The collection of the Fund of the Centre of Contemporary Art of Montenegro comprises more than 1,000 works from 60 countries and is considered unique in Southeast Europe.
Those interested in nature and outdoor activities will also find dedicated attractions in the wider destination of Podgorica. Gorica Hill is close to the city centre and includes an adventure park. The Korita circular route is considered Montenegro’s first fully marked panoramic trail. It is 65 kilometres long, starts in Podgorica and leads into the mountainous region of Kuči, reaching the edge of the Cijevna River canyon.
