For those looking for a hotel in Igalo, local attractions offer specific points of interest: the Pet Danica coastal promenade, the programmes at the Dr Simo Milošević Institute, and Tito’s Villa “Galeb”, which is open to visitors. They range from a coastal promenade to health and leisure offerings and a visitor attraction with a variety of interior spaces. You can weigh up which of these attractions matter for your trip based on the details below.

Promenade and Villa Galeb

The Pet Danica coastal promenade stretches from Igalo to Meljine. It is fully paved and illuminated. This clearly defines the route and surface of the coastal path.

Tito’s Villa “Galeb” is located within the Institute Igalo complex and is a visitor attraction that can be toured. The tour includes, among other things, Tito and Jovanka’s apartments, guest rooms, meeting and cinema rooms, and an atomic bunker. If you would like to include the villa in your plans, check the tour arrangements before you arrive.

Institute programmes

The Dr Simo Milošević Institute in Igalo offers individualised programmes for medical rehabilitation, prevention, wellness and leisure. These are distinct components of its offering. If you are travelling for a specific treatment, check its availability in advance. This helps you distinguish between general interest in the programmes and planning for a specific treatment.

Trails and landscapes in the wider Herceg Novi destination

In the wider Herceg Novi destination, Orjen Nature Park lies in the hinterland of Herceg Novi, on Mount Orjen. Its extensive network of marked trails ranges from easy walking paths to routes for experienced mountaineers. The park is connected by the Herceg Novi–Trebinje road; a marked trail from the centre of Herceg Novi leads there in less than two hours on foot.

The trails described also differ in purpose. The Herceg Novi–Kameno–Borići–“Za Vratlom” mountain hut trail connects Herceg Novi with Orjen and serves as an approach route to the Orjen–Lovćen–Rumija national long-distance trail. The Tatar bašta–Sušćepan–Ratiševina–Mokrine trail links villages in the hinterland and churches with viewpoints, and is suitable for walking and easy mountain hiking. Another option in Orjen is the trail to Veliki Kabao at 1,894 metres. It is considered one of Orjen’s most attractive and less difficult routes, as well as Montenegro’s oldest purpose-built hiking trail.

Historic sites in Herceg Novi

Kanli Kula, a monumental fortress in the old town, stands in Herceg Novi and was built by the Ottomans in 1539. The Herceg Novi Clock Tower was built in 1667 by order of Sultan Mahmud and forms the entrance to the old town. Forte Mare stands right on the coast and guarded the city’s access from the sea. From the fortress, there are views of the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, the city harbour, Igalo and the old town.

The Mirko Komnenović City Museum opened in 1953 and preserves historical, archaeological, ethnological and icon collections. It is surrounded by a botanical garden with rare plants and offers views of the sea. The house of Nobel Prize laureate Ivo Andrić also offers a specific historical connection: it was built between 1962 and 1963; Andrić lived there with his wife, Milica Babić, from 1963 to 1968. The house contains the permanent exhibition “Andrić’s New Paths, Faces, Landscapes”, and the courtyard has been adapted for cultural events.
