Sušćepan combines a historic focal point with routes for walks and hikes. St. Stephen's Church represents sacred architecture and is recognized as a cultural asset of national importance. The Tatar bašta–Sušćepan–Ratiševina–Mokrine trail connects villages in the hinterland with churches and other sights.

St. Stephen's Church and Memorial Plaque

Montenegro recognizes St. Stephen's Church in Sušćepan as a cultural asset of national importance. Two griffins are set into its side walls. The parapet slabs decorated with griffins are also notable architectural elements: they are pre-Romanesque Byzantine works dating to the 9th century. The church itself was built during the time of Tvrtko or Herceg Stjepan. When considering the chronology, it is worth keeping the two statements distinct: the slabs are attributed to the 9th century, while the church's construction is associated with one of these two figures.

A memorial plaque on Jovo Grbić's house in Sušćepan commemorates a meeting place for illegal fighters and the NOR fighters Nedeljko and Petar Grbić. Together with the church, it forms another historical landmark in the village. Different forms of remembrance thus stand side by side: the art-historically classified architectural elements of St. Stephen's and the plaque commemorating a meeting place and named fighters.

Trails, Springs and Walking Times

The Tatar bašta–Sušćepan–Ratiševina–Mokrine trail is suitable for walking and hiking. In addition to this specific route, Sušćepan is part of an active-tourism destination that encompasses the hinterland of Sušćepan, Ratiševina and Mokrine. The named trail and the wider area are different levels of orientation: the trail connects villages with churches and other sights, while the destination describes a larger area.

A 2017 report gives an approximate 20-minute easy walk along the Tatar Bašta (old bridge)–Sušćepan (Bostanj Spring) trail to the spring. At the time, the “Subra” mountaineering club marked the trail as a mountain path; stone structures were also repaired, vegetation cleared, and signposts pointing toward Sušćepan installed. Since this work was reported in 2017, check the trail conditions and signage on site before setting out.

A path leads from Bostanj Spring to the Church of St. Cosmas and Damian and to a viewpoint. A route description from 2017 estimates the walk there at a little over 20 minutes. The two time estimates refer to different destinations: about 20 minutes to the spring and a little over 20 minutes from there to the church and viewpoint. They are therefore not two estimates for the same stretch of trail.

Historic Buildings in the Wider Herceg-Novi Destination

Other buildings in the wider Herceg-Novi destination add to the historical picture. Kanli Kula is a monumental fortress in the old town of Herceg Novi, built by the Ottomans in 1539. Herceg Novi's Clock Tower was built in 1667 by order of Sultan Mahmud and forms the entrance to the old town. These dates offer a separate chronological reference alongside the parapet slabs of the church in Sušćepan, which date to the 9th century.
