Coastline and Beach Options

Sutomore Beach is 1,200 meters long; the town is known for its long sandy beach and lively summer atmosphere. Nearby Ĺ trbine Beach offers a different kind of coastline: it is a 100-meter-long pebble beach. Ratac Beach is also located at Cape Ratac, between Sutomore and Bar, and is designated as a nudist beach. Beach uses and facilities may change.

Along Sutomore Beach, there are restaurants, cafés, fast-food outlets and souvenir shops. Entertainment is also available at the beach and in nearby restaurants. The commercial and entertainment offerings may change over time. If particular venues or offerings are important to your plans, check their current status in advance.

Local History and Historic Buildings

Sutomore's history includes an early history of tourism and an architectural character shaped by stone and wrought-iron palaces. West of Sutomore is the Church of St. Thecla, one kilometer from the sea. It was built in the 14th century and has both an Orthodox and a Catholic altar. A cemetery for members of both faiths is located in front of the church.

Haj-Nehaj lies on a hill above the sea, at an elevation of 225 meters. It is home to the remains of a medieval town built in the 15th century. Haj-Nehaj was built by the Venetians for defensive purposes and was first mentioned in 1542. A trail rated easy runs 2.7 kilometers from Sutomore to Haj-Nehaj Fortress.

Other historical sites are also near Sutomore: the remains of the Church of St. Roch date from the 14th century. On the shore, at the end of Cape Ratac between Bar and Sutomore, stand the remains of the 11th-century Benedictine monastery of the Virgin Mary of Ratac. These sites add other historical periods to the history of Venetian fortifications.

Hiking and Views

The route to Haj-Nehaj Fortress is a specific way to combine hiking with a historic destination. For walks and panoramic views, the nearby Sutorman viewpoint offers another option. The two options differ mainly in their stated focus: the hiking trail at Haj-Nehaj leads to a fortress, while Sutorman is a viewpoint associated with hiking, walking and panoramic views.

More Options in the Wider Bar Destination

The wider Bar destination lies between the Adriatic coast and Lake Skadar. Lake Skadar National Park has nine marked hiking trails that visitors can use independently with a map. Maps are available at the visitor centers in Virpazar and Vranjina. The national park also has five cycling routes and two mountain biking trails; cycling routes start in places including Virpazar.

On Lake Skadar, licensed operators organize boat trips, with Virpazar among the departure points. Birdwatching there can be arranged from a boat or from the Stanaj observation tower; booking at least one day in advance is required. These options broaden the range of activities in the Bar destination to include the lake and differ from Sutomore's beach and history themes.

Seasonal Information and Transport Connections

A tourist information office operates in Sutomore during the season. Transport connections also cover a wider area: the Bar–Sutomore area is connected by main roads and rail to Podgorica, Bar and the Port of Bar. When choosing a hotel in Sutomore, you can distinguish local interests—beaches, architectural history or hiking—from the broader options in the Bar destination.
