Allaži offers several areas of interest to consider when planning a trip: natural phenomena, walking routes and cultural history. These include bodies of water with changing characteristics, a network of routes for different types of travel, and sites with specific historical connections. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Allaži, starting with your main interest can make planning easier.

Nature between the lake and springs

The Mežmuižas avoti Nature Reserve covers 27 hectares. Linezers is a periodically disappearing lake whose water sometimes drains underground; its water level also fluctuates naturally. The Kaļķugravas springs offer a different kind of water feature: their number ranges from three to 14, depending on rainfall. This offers two different ways to observe natural variability—in the water level at Linezers and in the number of springs.

The Kaļķugravas springs are located in Allažu pagasts. Boardwalks and stairs have been built to access them. Check their condition before your visit, as it may change. The Černauski Great Oak is another natural highlight: it has a circumference of 6.9 metres, and its hollow is home to protected shiny ants. As well as the tree’s size, the habitat in its hollow is a distinctive feature.

Cultural history and architecture

The Černausku cult stone, also known as the Ezernieku Stone, is 1.7 metres high and has a circumference of 16.7 metres. Historical sources mention it as the “Great Stone” as early as 1739; for several centuries, farmers left offerings there. This natural monument combines precise measurements with a long-established cultural significance.

The Allaži Evangelical Lutheran Church is an architectural monument of national significance. It was built in 1926 to a design by architect Pauls Kundziņš. Its construction date, architect and protected status give the church a clear connection to architectural history.

The mobile exhibition “Allaž laipni Allažos” provides information about the fate of Allaži Manor, the former distillery, the manor’s owners and the caraway liqueur “Allažu ķimelis”. It is intended for individual and group visits; additional visiting times can be arranged by prior booking. As visiting times may change, confirm your planned visit in advance.

Routes and practical planning

Two hiking trails were created in the Allaži nature trail network in 2001. One trail leads from Linezers to Pandu Bog, giving you a specific destination for route planning. Check the current condition of the trails before setting off. The Allaži nature trails also include a roughly 50-kilometre route for touring by car. These details represent different ways of travelling: hiking and a motorised route whose length is approximate.

Allaži can be reached by bus on the Riga–Allaži–Sigulda route. If you plan to use this connection, check the timetable before travelling, as schedules may change.

Consider which of these you would like to prioritise before choosing a hotel.
