Event dates and getting your bearings in Millstreet

The Millstreet International Horse Show takes place every year in August. Green Glens Arena is located in Millstreet, County Cork.

Sports facilities and hiking

At the entrance to Millstreet Town Park is Millstreet Astro Turf, an enclosed all-weather sports pitch. Local sports clubs and private groups can rent the pitch; booking conditions may change. If you are planning a group booking, confirm the conditions in advance.

Claragh Loop is a challenging 10 km circular hiking trail with 360 metres of ascent. These figures give you a clear indication of the route’s length and climb. The trail offers impressive views of the North Cork countryside. One section shares a route with the long-distance Duhallow Way before Claragh Loop branches off again.

Culture and other activities

The Cillín, a famine burial ground, is another cultural landmark visitors can see on Claragh Loop. Alongside the views of North Cork, it adds a historical dimension to the hike.

Near Millstreet is the Green Glens cross-country course, set on the scenic grounds of Drishane Castle. It was established in 2014. Tubrid Well is also located on the western edge of Millstreet, north of Killarney Road and on the River Finnow. The spring is a developed local pilgrimage site, where religious devotion is practised both individually and communally. The two cultural landmarks differ in character: the Cillín is a famine burial ground, while Tubrid Well is a place of pilgrimage.

More to explore in the wider Cork destination

The wider Cork destination also offers cultural and garden attractions, which provide a different focus from Millstreet’s sports and hiking. Barryscourt Castle was built between 1392 and 1420 as an Irish tower house. Fota Arboretum covers 11 hectares and is home to rare, delicate trees and shrubs that grow outdoors. The gardens at Fota include an ornamental lake, formal pleasure gardens, an orangery and a sun temple. These examples offer different points of interest: Barryscourt showcases architectural history, while Fota combines an arboretum with garden features. When planning your trip, you can choose between a historic building and garden culture. Charles Fort in the wider Cork destination was built between 1677 and 1682 to protect the town and harbour of Kinsale. From the walls and ramparts, you can look out over the harbour.
