If you’re looking for a hotel in Gargaliani, the town’s location, nearby beaches and events throughout the year may all factor into your choice of destination.

Hillside setting and nearby beaches

At the foot of Mount Aigaleo, Gargaliánoi sits on a green hillside at an elevation of 300 meters. On the town’s northwestern edge, the Prophet Elias Chapel stands on the highest hill. This describes both its location at the foot of the mountain and a specific landmark within the town. The beaches of Marathos and Lagouvardos are also nearby. Both are beach destinations in the area around Gargaliánoi, while the hillside setting and chapel describe the town itself. If you’re weighing the town’s location against its proximity to beaches when choosing a destination, these details help distinguish the geographic reference points.

Festivals for different occasions

The Agapineia commemorative events honoring Sarantos Agapinos, known as Tellos Agras, take place every year in Gargaliánoi during the first half of July. Another annual occasion is the feast of Saint Dionysios Areopagites, the patron saint of Gargaliánoi. It is celebrated on October 3 with a large trade fair. The two events also differ in timing: the Agapineia takes place during the first half of July, while the patron saint’s feast falls on a specific day in October. If you’re planning your trip around one of these events, check the date for the year you intend to visit.

The Olive and Olive Oil Festival, “The Roads of the Olive Tree,” is also among the festivals in Gargaliánoi. It was held for the eighth time in 2025 and is organized every year by the Gargaliani Women’s Educational Association. With its focus on olives and olive oil, it has a different theme from the tribute to Tellos Agras and the patron saint’s feast. Another dated event in 2025 was an art workshop for children themed around the olive tree. It took place on the afternoon of August 7 in the courtyard of the Briskeios Library. The workshop also centered on the olive tree, but in a different format: an art event for children on a specific afternoon.

Tellos Agras in town

A marble statue of Sarantis Agapinos, known by his nom de guerre Tellos Agras, stands in front of the municipal library in Gargaliánoi; he was from Gargaliánoi. The commemorative events and the statue offer different local points of reference for his name: an annual tribute and a public monument at the library. These forms of remembrance also differ in timing. The commemorative events take place every year in the first half of July, while the statue stands there as a permanent monument. This distinguishes the recurring celebration from the fixed location of the monument as two different aspects of local remembrance.
