When choosing a hotel in Ypsos, it helps to distinguish local orientation from the wider cultural and natural attractions of Corfu. Two local reference points are bus route 7 and the village of Agios Markos. They offer different perspectives on your stay: one is a named bus route through Ipsos, while the other is a village nearby with historic buildings.

Bus route 7 runs between Dassia and Ipsos, passes through Ipsos and ends in Ipsos–Pyrgi. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable in advance. Agios Markos is a village in the hills above Ipsos, in the area around Ypsos. Its old churches and ivy-covered mansions give the village a historic character. For your trip planning, a specific bus route and a nearby village with its own distinct character are two separate points of reference.

Corfu: Old Town and museums

The wider destination of Corfu offers further attractions, clearly distinct from the local points of reference in Ypsos. Corfu Old Town and its two fortresses are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic urban fabric has been almost entirely preserved; the buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town therefore combines a largely preserved urban layout with a long architectural history.

The museums also have different focuses. The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia. The Archaeological Museum of Corfu displays the Gorgon-Medusa pediment from the great Temple of Artemis. It was created in 585 BC and excavated in 1911 near the Monastery of Aghioi Theodoroi. The two attractions are clearly distinct: one is an extensive collection connected to several regions of Asia, while the other is a significant archaeological work from Corfu’s history.

There is also a digital guide for residents and visitors to help them find their way around the Old Town. It provides audiovisual information about more than 80 attractions within the city; check whether it is available before your trip. The Museum of Asian Art can be reached from Corfu Port by bus route 2, on the Mantouki–Kanoni route. These details relate to destinations on Corfu and should not be confused with local bus route 7 through Ipsos.

Hiking and village culture on Corfu

Corfu offers different scales of hiking as well. In the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths wind through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. The 180-kilometre Corfu Trail, by contrast, passes through several settlements; Benitses is one of its 13 daily stages. The paths in Achilleion and the long-distance trail therefore represent different hiking options on Corfu.

The culture of the municipal unit of Achilleion includes numerous festivals and folk festivals in the villages, as well as cultural events organised by the municipality. Programmes vary; if you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates. Another historical point of interest on Corfu is the Achilleion Summer Palace in Gastouri. It was built in 1892 in the Pompeian style. These attractions may broaden your ideas for a stay on Corfu, but they remain separate destinations within the wider holiday destination.
