Beach and location

Dassia Beach stretches along a long strip of sand and fine pebbles, and the water is shallow. It is one of the island’s most popular beaches. When looking for hotels in Dassia, it’s worth first organizing your travel plans: Will the beach be a priority, would you like to include water sports, or are you also interested in Corfu’s culture?

The beach is 12 km from Corfu Town and is served by city bus route 7. Check the current timetable for route 7 when planning your trip. This lets you factor the bus connection into your choice of location and weigh up time at the beach, activities, and possible trips into town according to your plans.

Water sports in Dassia

The sheltered bay of Dassia offers good conditions for stand-up paddleboarding, especially in the morning when the sea is calm. On the southern SUP route, the team paddles along Dassia Beach and visits a small, uninhabited island a few metres offshore. As the tour route may change, check the current route before taking part.

For wakeboarding, beginners first receive an instruction on land. They then start from a pole on the side of the boat, which makes it easier to communicate with the instructor. The southern SUP route combines a stretch along the beach with a visit to an island; wakeboarding, by contrast, focuses on the instruction and starting from the side of the boat. Children must be accompanied by an adult when parasailing. Other activities available in Dassia include speedboat rentals and paragliding; check availability for your travel dates in advance.

Culture and regional orientation

The Kerkyra branch of the National Gallery is located in nearby Kato Korakiana. It opened in 1993 and is about 2 km from Dassia Beach. If you plan to visit, check the current exhibitions and opening details in advance.

In the wider destination of Corfu, the Old Town is a cultural and historical focal point in its own right. Its historic urban fabric is almost entirely preserved, and its buildings date from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The Old Town and its two fortresses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A digital guide to the Old Town provides residents and visitors with audiovisual information about more than 80 sights within the city; check its availability before your trip.

The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas, and Central Asia. From Corfu Port, the museum can be reached on bus route 2 on the Mantouki–Kanoni route. Check the timetable before travelling. If you would also like to plan a hike, Corfu has the 180-kilometre Corfu Trail: it passes through several settlements and includes Benitses as one of its 13 overnight stops.
