Kerames combines a mountainside setting with views of the Libyan Sea on the way there. In the village, features include cobbled lanes, a central square with a fountain and the Church of Agios Dimitrios. The surrounding area also has another church, as well as coastal destinations and beaches. When looking for hotels in Kerames, you can choose your destination based on the village setting, religious buildings and coastal options.

Hillside Setting and Village Character

Kerames lies amphitheatrically on the slopes of the mountains Siderotas to the east, Kenta to the north and Vouvála to the west, at an altitude of 300 metres. Its hillside setting, elevation and orientation towards the three mountains give the village a distinct topographical profile. On the way to Kerames, you can enjoy views of the Libyan Sea. The sea view is part of the journey, while the mountains define the village’s location.

The cobbled lanes and central square with a fountain add the village’s built character to the surrounding landscape. Kerames can therefore be viewed not only in terms of its elevation and surroundings, but also through specific features within the village. These offer two different perspectives when choosing a destination: its terrain and its architectural features.

Churches in Kerames and the Surrounding Area

The Church of Agios Dimitrios in Kerames is a single-nave basilica. A donor inscription names Mich. Savorginis and gives the year 1891. Its features include a carved wooden iconostasis and icons. The church thus brings together an inscription bearing a name and date, woodcarving and iconography. For travellers interested in religious architecture, these offer several distinct aspects by which to describe the church.

Nearby, close to Drymiskos, stands Agios Ioannis Theologos (Alotos), a church decorated with frescoes dating from the 17th century. The two churches differ in the features described: Kerames has a single-nave basilica with a donor inscription, iconostasis and icons, while near Drymiskos there is a 17th-century frescoed church. This makes it possible to distinguish their different architectural and artistic features.

Coastal Destinations and Pirgos

The beaches of Ligres and Triopetra are considered nearby coastal destinations from Kerames. The surrounding area also has the two neighbouring beaches of Pirgos, between Gialopotama and the harbour of Agia Fotini. They consist of fine pebbles and sand, are surrounded by large rocks and are suitable for snorkelling. The description of Pirgos’s coast thus covers both the beach material and rocky surroundings, as well as a specific activity. This offers a different point of comparison from Ligres and Triopetra, which are described as nearby coastal destinations.

An unpaved track to Pirgos begins 500 metres north of Gialopotama. The 500 metres indicate the location of the starting point, not the length of the track. Pirgos can also be reached on foot from Gialopotama along the rocky coast. As the condition of the track may change, check it before using it. Three distinctive caves lie above Pirgos. These add further landscape features in the area to the beaches and routes described above.
