If you are looking for a destination with clear cultural and landscape themes for a hotel stay, Käru offers several different points of interest. The Käru Museum is dedicated to historic prams and carts, the Käru Church adds an architectural feature, and the manor park and Lake Käru järv offer walking paths and summer swimming, respectively. These themes have different focuses: collectibles from various eras, a rare wooden building, and outdoor activities. You can start by considering which aspect of the town best suits your travel interests.

Museum and everyday history

The permanent exhibition at the Käru Museum includes more than 200 prams and carts from various eras. The number makes for an extensive exhibition, while its recurring theme provides a clear thread. The range of periods allows you to view the collection as a whole: the group of objects remains the same, while the eras change. The museum is therefore a specific point of interest if you prefer to explore cultural history through everyday objects rather than abstract overviews.

The museum also welcomes groups of five or more by prior arrangement outside official opening hours. Confirm the arrangement again before your visit, as it may change.

Wooden church and market square

The Käru Church is a wooden church built in 1860 and is one of the few wooden churches in Estonia to have survived to this day. Its construction is therefore a distinctive topic for anyone interested in the town’s cultural heritage. The tower bell also has its own date: it dates from 1771. The bell’s date precedes the church’s construction year, providing a separate historical reference point.

A movable garden cart stands in Käru’s market square. It provides a single local counterpoint to the extensive museum collection: here, one garden cart; there, more than 200 prams and carts from various eras. The cart theme thus appears both as an individual object in the town and as the focus of an exhibition.

Manor park and lake

The park at Käru Manor is a protected park with walking paths. If you do not want to plan your stay solely around exhibitions and buildings, the paths provide a reason to spend time outdoors. The park thus brings together two different aspects to consider when planning a trip: the site’s protected status and the opportunity to explore it on foot.

You can swim in Lake Käru järv in summer. Check local conditions before swimming. The two outdoor activities therefore differ in character: the park paths invite you for a walk, while swimming in the lake is a summer activity.

Getting your bearings in Käru

The Tallinn–Viljandi railway line runs through Käru. As a geographical reference, it complements the cultural and nature themes with the route of a railway line through the town.
