Key features of a stay in Reiu include Reiu Beach, the Reiu–Raeküla trail network and the river with its protected area. There is also a memorial site in the village. These different aspects can help you plan your trip around your interests: spending time by the water, getting active on marked routes, or exploring nature and local history.

Reiu Beach: shallow water and evening views

The water at Reiu Beach is warm and shallow. The beach is particularly suitable for families with children. An evening visit offers especially beautiful views. Depending on the time of year, you can watch the sun set over the sea or behind the forest.

In summer, the small Reiuranna Café is open at the beach in the shade of the trees. The menu features light meals and drinks, including salads, pastries, grilled sandwiches and ice cream. The café is a seasonal summer offering. If you plan to visit, check in advance whether it is currently open.

Marked trails for walking, running and mountain biking

The Reiu–Raeküla trail network includes marked routes of 3, 5 and 10 km. They are intended for walking, running and mountain biking. You can choose a route based on your preferred distance and select from three clearly specified lengths. The trail network can also be accessed from Reiu Puhkekeskus.

In winter, there is a 3 km artificial-snow trail with lighting. It is designed for classic and freestyle skiing. Winter operation depends on snowmaking and seasonal conditions. This adds a winter option to the walking, running and mountain biking opportunities; plan your visit according to the conditions on site.

River scenery and protected area

The protected area along the Reiu River also includes the village of Reiu. The habitat type “Rivers and streams,” designated under Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC and assigned code 3260, is protected there. For nature enthusiasts, this specific designation offers insight into the protected-area status associated with the river.

The Reiu River is navigable from its mouth to the railway bridge. Conditions and regulations may vary for a particular trip, so check in advance what applies to your plans. The navigable section mentioned extends to the railway bridge and refers to a specific stretch of the river.

A memorial site in the village

A 2022 state inventory of monuments lists a mass grave of victims of terror in Reiu with two memorial markers. One of them is a monument erected in 1967. The two years refer to different things: 2022 to the inventory, and 1967 to the monument’s erection.

Choosing when to visit Reiu and what to focus on

The café is a summer offering, while the artificial-snow trail is for winter and depends on snowmaking and seasonal conditions. For the rest of your plans, consider whether you would most like to focus on the beach, the trail network, or the river and protected area.
