When planning a trip to Leina, it is worth looking at Jõulumäe. In the village of Leina, the natural cross-country ski trails offer several set distances; Jõulumäe also has opportunities for mountain biking, cycling, hiking and sledging. The activities vary by season, terrain and type of route. If you are planning your trip around specific activities, you can first decide whether you are more interested in cross-country skiing, a cycling option, a hiking destination or the sledging hill. Specific features can also help you choose between these options: for winter activities, snow conditions and the slope matter; for trails, consider distance, terrain or surface.

Cross-country skiing on the Jõulumäe trails

The natural cross-country ski trails in Jõulumäe offer routes of 3 km, 5 km, 7.5 km and 10 km. The four distances let you use the planned route length as your first point of comparison; there are seven kilometres between the shortest and longest options. The trails run through gently hilly terrain. At junctions, permanently installed, colour-coded posts and directional signs show the way. Distance, terrain and signage provide practical details for planning: you can choose your preferred route length in advance and follow the markings along the way. Skiing requires sufficient natural snow. So take snow conditions into account when considering a date for cross-country skiing.

Mountain biking, cycling and hiking

There are two permanently marked routes for mountain biking. Both start at the main stadium and pass through hilly forest terrain. In addition, a paved cycling path, five metres wide, runs through the pine forest of Jõulumäe. Different features matter when comparing them: for the mountain biking routes, the starting point and hilly terrain are key; for the cycling path, consider its paved surface and width.

On foot, the longest hiking trail at the Jõulumäe Sports Centre leads to the Rannemetsa-Tolkuse Nature Trail. This nature trail gives the longest route a specific destination; include it in your plans if you like to organise your hike around a named place.

Sledging in winter

With two gentler slopes for younger children and a steeper one for more experienced sledgers, the sledging hill is arranged by gradient and user group. When comparing winter activities, distinguish between snow conditions on the cross-country ski trails and the facilities at the sledging hill: the trails require sufficient natural snow, while one of the sledging slopes has artificial snow and is lit in the evenings.
