Kahala is classified as a clustered village (sumbküla). The term describes the settlement pattern of the place and complements its specific names and historical dates with a view of its character. For travelers choosing Kahala as a destination, local history and the library are the most significant points of interest.

Village Character and Former Names

The part of Kahala located on the Villevere side was formerly called Roniküla. This name refers to a specific part of the place, not to all of Kahala. The distinction helps identify the specific area associated with the historical place name.

In the 15th and 16th centuries, a historic road ran from Sakala through Kahala to Reval. This former route connected three named places. It belongs to a different period from the library’s later changes and offers an earlier perspective on Kahala.

The History of the Kahala Library

The predecessor of the Kahala Library began lending books in 1949. In 1966, the service area of the Ollepa Library was expanded to include the village of Kahala; a lending point opened in Kahala in 1978. These dates mark different steps: the predecessor’s lending service, Kahala’s inclusion in the service area, and a lending point in the village. After the population of Ollepa declined, the library’s main collection was moved to Kahala. On September 1, 2015, the Ollepa Library was renamed the Kahala Library.

Technical and spatial development is also part of this history. In 2002, the Kahala Library received a permanent internet connection. Its premises were expanded in 2003, and in 2004, 16 square meters of floor space were added. The sequence of years thus records three specific changes: an internet connection, expanded premises, and additional floor space.

The Kahala Library is one of the organizational units of the Türi Library and serves readers from the local community. Its history encompasses both the development of the institution and its connection to the local population.
