Accommodation in Kalvi
When exploring Kalvi, coastal scenery, striking landforms and protected natural areas take centre stage. Different priorities matter when planning your trip: Kalvi Klint Island offers a geological perspective, the park and protected areas provide their own natural highlights, and a signposted trail leads to RMK Kalvi lõkkekoht. If you are looking for a hotel in Kalvi, you can plan your stay around whether you want to focus on the coast, landforms or nature. Check the specific details provided for each accommodation option.
Coast, Klint and cliffs
The 15 km² Kalvi Klint Island is separated from the North Estonian limestone plateau by two geological features: the Aseri Fault to the south and the Pada Klint Valley to the west. These directions distinguish the two boundaries of the landform and provide a clear indication of its location. At Kalvi Manor, three cliffs converge to form an approximately 50-metre-high Ontika-type cliff. Klint Island is a 15 km² geological landform; the Ontika cliff at Kalvi Manor is characterised by its converging cliffs and approximate height. This allows you to distinguish between the large-scale landform and a specific stretch of cliffs.
Protected nature: park, species and habitats
Kalvi mõisa park covers 13.3 hectares and is a protected park. A site where the protected orchid species Dactylorhiza incarnata grows has been recorded in Kalvi Hoiuala; the species belongs to protection category III. The permanent habitat of the lichen Biatoridium monasteriense near Kalvi lies partly within the Aseri Landscape Protection Area. The Pada River protected area includes the village of Kalvi; its conservation objectives include river and stream habitats, as well as the habitat of the European river lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis). These protection measures focus on different things: an orchid growing site, a lichen habitat partly within a landscape protection area, and aquatic habitats with the European river lamprey as a conservation objective.
Signposted trail and Route No. 5
A signposted trail runs along an old road embankment parallel to the coast and leads to RMK Kalvi lõkkekoht. There is an information board and a grill at the destination. Kalvi Manor is listed as a stop on Route No. 5, which connects Kõrtsialuse, Kalvi and Aseri. The two routes offer different ways to get your bearings: the signposted trail has a described coastal course and a named destination, while Route No. 5 connects Kalvi with two other named places and lists Kalvi Manor as a stop. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish the trail to the RMK destination from the connection between places provided by Route No. 5.
Beach area and hotel choice
The stopping area at Kalvi beach, intended for vehicles and bicycles, has been expanded. The associated work was completed in 2023–2024. These are two distinct coastal features for orientation: the expanded stopping area at the beach and the signposted trail along the old road embankment. If you are looking for a hotel in Kalvi, you can consider whether you would rather plan your trip around the cliffs and landforms, the protected areas or the trail. Check the details of the specific hotel offer when choosing.
