Slavičín: History, Views and Nature
Accommodation in Slavičín
Town history, insights into the regional museum, viewpoints and trails offer different ways to enjoy a stay in Slavičín. If you are looking for a hotel in Slavičín, you can use these topics to help plan your trip—for example, a visit to the historic buildings, a walk or a cycling tour.
Town History at the Church and Museum
The oldest building in Slavičín is the Church of St. Adalbert and St. Cecilia. It dates from the 13th century and was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1897. The cemetery around the church contains the grave of 28 American airmen who lost their lives in the air battle over the White Carpathians. They were buried there on 31 August 1944.
The Slavičín Town Museum brings together several topics from local and regional history. A five-minute virtual reality experience depicts the air battle over the White Carpathians on 29 August 1944. Other exhibits include archaeological finds from the Slavičínsko region, dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The exhibition also explores “zvěroklestičství,” the traditional craft of animal castration typical of the region. Wichterle Castle has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964.
Pivečkův Forest Park and Viewpoints
Pivečkův Forest Park was established in 1936 as a recreational area for the residents of Slavičín, especially employees of the Piveček family’s shoe factory. The park is freely accessible. Its features include a pond, a playground, dozens of wooden sculptures and a large natural amphitheatre. A visit lets you connect the park’s origins as a recreational area with the facilities it offers today.
The Vyhlídka sv. Kryštofa is a viewpoint whose design draws inspiration from the forms of Gothic cathedrals, stained glass and plays of light. From here, you can look out over the Slavičín landscape, including the Church of St. Adalbert and St. Cecilia and the chapel in Hrádek. Architecture and landscape share the view: the viewpoint takes up Gothic forms, while the vista extends beyond the named buildings into the surrounding area.
On Foot and by Bike
The moderate circular trail “Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku” is 15 kilometres long. It runs from the centre of Slavičín via Pivečkův Forest Park to the viewpoints above Petrůvka and back; along the way, there are views of the White Carpathians. If you plan to do the circuit, check current trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.
For a cycling tour, cycle route 5238 connects Slavičín and Luhačovice. The route also offers views of Slavičín against the backdrop of the White Carpathian peaks. Slavex Trails comprises four natural or easy bike-park-style trails with a total length of more than 3.5 kilometres. Seasonal bike courses led by instructors and holiday camps for children are available there. The seasonal programme may change; check the latest dates in advance.
Outdoor Pool with Seasonal Opening
The municipal outdoor pool is set in a wooded area near the castle park, sports stadium and ponds. It is usually open from June to September; the seasonal dates may vary. Visitors can use a beach volleyball court. If you plan to use the court during your visit, check the current booking conditions.
