Discover Halenkov: Trails and Thonet History
Accommodation in Halenkov
If you are looking for a hotel in Halenkov, marked trails and local history can offer different starting points for planning your trip. From Halenkov, trails lead towards the ridges of the Javorníky and Vsetínské vrchy; in Halenkov and Dinotice, religious buildings and the history of bentwood furniture are specific points of interest. You can decide whether you would rather go hiking, follow a cycling route, or explore historical sites.
Hiking, Cycling, and Cross-Country Skiing
Marked trails lead from Halenkov to the Javorníky ridge on foot, by bicycle, or on cross-country skis. Another route goes via Vsacký Cáb to the ridge of the Vsetínské vrchy; Vsacký Cáb is listed at an elevation of 841 metres. This gives you both a ridge as a destination and a named point along the route. When comparing routes, you can decide whether to include the Javorníky ridge or the way via Vsacký Cáb to the Vsetínské vrchy in your plans.
The nature trail runs through all of Halenkov and connects the village with Lazy pod Makytou on the Slovak side of the Javorníky. At almost 30 kilometres long, with thirteen stops, it gives you an idea of the route’s overall scale. A route description published in September 2025 says the nature trail is open to tourists and cyclists and is also suitable for a leisurely walk. If its current accessibility is important to your plans, check access before your visit. The nature trail starts at the restored “Boží muka” chapel in Dinotice. The section from Dinotice via the upper ponds in Provazné can be covered by bicycle.
Cycling Route and Landscape
The Bečva cycle path runs for a total of 44 kilometres from Vsetín to Velké Karlovice; one section passes through Halenkov. Inline skaters also use this section. The distance refers to the connection between the two endpoints, not only the part that runs through Halenkov. This helps distinguish the longer cycle route from local trail options.
A wooden cross on Kyčerka, along the nature trail, offers wide views over Valašsko and the Javorníky. Halenkov’s small valleys also shape the character of the tranquil, picturesque landscape of Valašsko, which has been largely preserved. The viewpoint, valleys, and marked trails offer different ways to plan your stay, without any one route needing to be the main focus.
Religious Buildings and Thonet History
The Late Baroque Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built together with the rectory between 1786 and 1788. It forms part of a protected cemetery complex. The complex includes a tower, a mortuary chapel, a perimeter wall with two gates, and a niche chapel. The church has a single-nave layout with a transept and side chapels, an organ loft, and a five-storey west tower. These details describe both the larger protected complex and the architecture of the church itself.
The history of bentwood furniture is also linked to Halenkov: Michael Thonet founded a bentwood furniture factory there in 1868. In 1930, Hugo Thonet had the “Boží muka” chapel built in Dinotice. It is a place of worship and a lasting memorial to the Thonet family and Halenkov’s bentwood furniture history. Chairs from the Gebrüder Thonet branch in Halenkov became a symbol of lightness, elegance, and durability. The chapel at the start of the nature trail thus connects a specific place in Dinotice with this local industrial history.
Sports and Cultural Events
Halenkov’s sports complex includes a pump track with its own operating rules. The multi-purpose sports court can be reserved after registering as a user. If you plan to use either facility, check the applicable rules or reservation details in advance.
In 2023, Halenkovské slavnosti was a traditional cultural event and held its 19th edition. The traditional programme included a humorous performance by the fire brigade, ending with the felling of a maypole. This date places the described edition in context without suggesting a current event date.
