Dobrkovice lies in a deep valley in the Vizovické vrchy at an altitude of 276 metres. The village has retained its agricultural character. The Holomňa, a tributary of the Olšava, flows through the centre. The valley, stream and local history give you concrete points of reference for understanding Dobrkovice as a destination.

Location and orientation

Dobrkovice lies one kilometre east of the main road from Uherský Brod via Velký Ořechov to Zlín. The nearest railway station is in Biskupice. For planning your journey, these are two distinct reference points: the village’s location in relation to the named main road and the station in Biskupice.

Village square and ridge

The village square is home to a wooden bell tower dating from 1832 and the chapel of “Panny Marie, Pomocnice křesťanů”. The bell tower houses a bell dating from 1935. The chapel stands beside a bridge over the Holomňa. Different historical details thus come together in the village square: a dated structure and its bell, and a chapel by the bridge over the stream. The chapel was consecrated in 1997. Its consecration therefore came considerably later than the construction of the bell tower in 1832 and the bell’s date of 1935. Together, the three dates show how the historical landmarks in the village square differ in age.

Above Dobrkovice, on a bare ridge at a crossroads, stands a Baroque statue of Saint John the Baptist. It dates from 1744 and has been protected as a cultural monument since May 1958. The locations are clearly distinct: the chapel and bell tower are in the village square, while the statue stands on the ridge.

Monuments and local history

The monument to those who fell in the First World War was erected in 1921. It stands above a bend near the municipal office building. Another cross was consecrated in 1947 in front of house No. 27, on the occasion of the first Mass of Vojtěch Fuglíks, who was from Dobrkovice. A first Mass is a priest’s first celebration of Mass. The two memorials are associated with different places and occasions: the monument with those who fell in the First World War, and the cross with Fuglíks’s first Mass.

The history of the forest also provides a concrete measure: Chlupáč Forest covered a total of 120 hectares within the cadastral area of Dobrkovice. The name, the forest’s area and the monuments shed light on different aspects of the village’s history, from earlier names to 20th-century memorials.

A travel description updated in 2024 also recounts a walk from the village square to the upper end of the settlement and onward towards the ridge above the village. This described route complements the individual location details with a walk through different parts of Dobrkovice.
