Vojslavice lies on the right bank of the Želivka. For planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between the historical themes: the village square is shaped by a religious building and Neoclassical farmsteads; south of the built-up area, the remains of the fortress are the main attraction, and the Vojslavický Bridge adds an engineering structure to the area’s architectural history. This way, you can decide how to explore the village based on the interests that matter to you.

Fortress remains in the forest

The remains of Vojslavice Fortress lie about 150 metres south of the built-up area, in a wooded area on a rocky promontory. An earthen rampart and a wide moat separate the remains from their surroundings. Together, these features give an impression of how the fortification was set apart within the terrain.

The route to the site starts at the south-western edge of the village square and first follows a sunken lane, then continues along the edge of a field to the forest. For ease of orientation, the route can be divided into these three sections. Conditions at the edge of the field may change, so check the path before setting out.

Church and pilgrimage tradition

The Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the central part of the village square. It has a cemetery and a former rectory. J. Santini remodelled the church in 1721–1723; these dates refer to the remodelling.

Vojslavice was known for Marian pilgrimages from the 1720s onwards. They were associated above all with a small statue that the faithful called “Uzdravení nemocných” (“Healing of the Sick”). Alongside the church’s architectural history, this pilgrimage tradition offers another way to explore the village’s history.

Two Neoclassical farmsteads on the village square

A Neoclassical rural farmhouse with extensive farm buildings was built in 1841 in the north-western part of the village square. Another Neoclassical rural farmstead, dating from 1842, stands in the western part and forms a valuable part of the townscape. The dates are just one year apart, but the locations and features described help distinguish the two: the farm buildings are a notable feature of the first, while the second is important to the overall townscape.

The Vojslavický Bridge and views of the reservoir

The Vojslavický Bridge is a unique two-level bridge over the Želivka valley near Humpolec in the Vysočina Region. The lower arch bridge dates from 1939–1950. Today, it carries a Class III road connecting Vojslavice and Hořice. The bridge combines its construction and transport function: its two-level design makes it a distinctive engineering structure, while its lower level forms part of the road link.

The lower level offers a view of the Švihov Reservoir. This view adds the landscape of the Želivka valley to the architectural perspective; visibility may vary.
