Lesní Jakubov combines a long-standing local history with a landscape shaped by forests and the Chvojnice. A chapel and memorial sites add to its historical character, while two marked cycling routes offer another way to explore the named places and landscapes in the surrounding area.

Local History Between the Fortress and the Chvojnice

The earliest written mention of Lesní Jakubov dates back to 1356. The early development of the settlement included an original fortress on a rise above a meander of the Chvojnice, on its right bank. Lesní Jakubov developed to the east of the fortress. The river bend, the fortress's elevated position and the direction in which the settlement grew are thus closely connected in the landscape.

Much of the original village layout has probably been preserved. The settlement's historic character is shaped above all by original farmsteads along the main road in the stream's floodplain. These details give the historic village both an architectural and a landscape dimension.

Chapel and Memorial Sites

The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a landmark of Lesní Jakubov. A brick bell tower once stood on the site of today's chapel and is thought to have been built around the 18th century. The chapel and the former bell tower therefore represent different phases of construction on the same site. A monument and a memorial are also associated with the chapel.

Other monuments have their own distinct locations: the monument to the victims of the First World War stands in front of the church. The monument to František Soukop is on the road to Horní Lhotice, about one kilometre from the village centre. Their locations make it possible to distinguish between these memorial sites.

Forest Landscape and Cycling Routes

The cadastral area of Lesní Jakubov has a high proportion of forest, with woodland forming an almost continuous ring around the village. The more precisely located landscape features lie to the west: the western part of the cadastral area belongs to EVSK No. 18 “Horní Chvojnice.” Regional biocorridor R05 runs along the western boundary, extends partly into the edges of the cadastral area and follows the course of the Chvojnice. The extensive woodland characterises the wider area, while EVSK and the biocorridor concern specific areas in the west and their routes.

Cyclists can distinguish between the two marked routes by their stated destinations. Route 5182 passes through Lesní Jakubov between Rapotice, Horní Lhotice and Kralice. Route 5184 leads from Lesní Jakubov towards the Chvojnice Reservoir, Hluboké and Krokočín. Route 5182 is described as running through the village between three towns, while Route 5184 lists several destinations from the village. Check the current signage before setting out.
