Pokojovice lies in the valley of the Stařečský potok stream. Ponds, meadows and the traditional settlement pattern define the village, while marked hiking and cycling trails also pass through the area. During your stay, you can therefore explore both the village landscape and specific routes.

Landscape and settlement pattern

The Stařečský potok, with its riparian vegetation and meadows, is designated as a landscape feature of Pokojovice. Horní rybník, one of two historic ponds, lies along the stream. Farský les, a dense forest, stretches west of the village. To the north of Pokojovice rises Šibeník, a 578-metre hill and a natural landmark in the surrounding area. Šibeník is also designated as a significant viewpoint. The two landscape features are in different locations: the forest lies west of the village, and the hill to the north.

The ponds also shape the layout of traditional farmsteads and houses, which stand along their banks. Riparian vegetation, gardens, orchards and meadows are also part of the settlement pattern. The settlement structure bordered by ponds is a characteristic element of Pokojovice’s urban composition. The first written mention of the village dates from 1190. This historical context goes hand in hand with the landscape features that shape the settlement’s spatial character.

Marked hiking and cycling trails

A green-marked hiking trail passes through the Pokojovice area. It runs via Kobylí hlava and Steklý rybník to Krahulov railway station. The nationally marked cycling route No. 5217, between Pokojovice and Dobrá Voda, also runs through the cadastral area. Both routes are marked, but their directions are described differently: the hiking trail lists intermediate points and a railway station as its destination, while the cycling route is identified by its number and the two villages along its course. Check the current signage for both routes before setting out.

Seasonal activities at Dolní rybník

An area at Dolní rybník is used as an ice-skating rink in winter and as a volleyball and nohejbal court in summer. The activities listed therefore vary by season. Seasonal use may change; if you are planning your visit around one of these activities, check in advance which use is currently available. Since all three names contain “rybník,” the context helps you distinguish them: Steklý rybník is an intermediate point on the green hiking trail, while Horní rybník is one of the two historic ponds along the Stařečský potok. The seasonal use as an ice-skating rink and volleyball and nohejbal court is at Dolní rybník. This makes it easier to tell the route, historic pond and seasonal sports area apart. When finding your way, pay attention to the full name.
