Křoví combines protected landscapes with historical sites and routes through the surrounding area. When planning a stay, you can focus on different aspects: the character of the landscape, the history of the place, or a tour with a clearly specified distance. The following places and routes offer concrete points of reference.

Landscape and Notable Places

The southern and southeastern parts of the municipality lie within the “Údolí Bílého potoka” Nature Park and are subject to enhanced protection of the landscape. The natural area also includes the Křovský úval, a natural and semi-cultivated meadow community with heat-loving plants. This locality is threatened by encroachment from shrubs. Its protected status and the vegetation described here illustrate two different aspects of the landscape: its protection across a wider area and the distinctive character of a particular meadow.

Southeast of Křoví, wooden sculptures titled “Reklama na čučení do krajiny” by Ing. arch. Župka stand on a hill. From there, you can enjoy views of the village and the valley of the Bílý potok; visibility may vary. Another named natural site is the “Studánka sv. Jána” spring near the Křoví sawmill. A forest pond is located nearby.

Routes and Distances

The “Už ty mlýny doklapaly” educational trail passes nine former mills in the area around Vlkov, Křoví, and Velká Bíteš. The shorter loop is 12 kilometres long. The adjoining loop around Křoví covers a further 7 kilometres, making 19 kilometres in total.

Pay particular attention to the current trail notice: parts of the educational trail may be in poor condition due to bark beetle damage and logging. Some marked trees are damaged or missing altogether. Check the trail conditions before setting out. A separate cycling route option is the 45-kilometre “Do údolí Bílého potoka na kole” tour, which passes through Křoví. It is considerably longer than the two stated loops on the educational trail, so the tours can be compared by distance. Conditions on the cycling route may change regardless of its course.

History and Monuments

Křoví was first mentioned in writing in connection with a sale in 1371. Specific historical sites in the village include the Neoclassical Church of Saints Peter and Paul, a cultural monument dating from 1808, and a cross from the same year in front of the church. The cross is listed as an immovable cultural monument. A wayside shrine in the northern part of Křoví has been protected as a monument since 1958. These dates indicate different historical references: the village’s first written mention and three protected monuments.

The historical extraction of raw materials is also part of the area’s history. In the 18th century, so-called Kutiště sites were used to extract iron ores. Later, from 1870 to 1885, graphite and limonite were mined in a quarry below Bítešská horka. These details refer to different periods and raw materials: the Kutiště sites date to the 18th century, while quarry mining is documented for the years 1870 to 1885.
