Hrutov combines a well-preserved original settlement layout with the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and several landscape features. This means you can consider a range of interests when choosing a destination: the village’s layout, its religious history, a green-marked hiking trail, and ponds and wet meadow landscapes. These highlights give you specific starting points if you would like to include nature and village history in your travel plans.

Landscape and Hiking Trail

A green-marked hiking trail runs through the cadastral area of Hrutov, connecting Krahulov and Kamenice. If you plan to follow the route, check the current trail conditions, as they can change.

The NovĂ˝ and ObĹŻrka pond ecosystems lie in the eastern part of the municipality; southeast of Hrutov, they are registered as significant landscape features. Forests around Bukovec Hill border the eastern edge of the municipality. This landscape therefore brings together ponds and forests, offering different ways to experience nature.

Another type of landscape is Na podlesích, an exceptionally well-preserved peat meadow in the floodplain of the Stráží stream near Hrutov. It covers about 2 ha and is a natural wet meadow habitat where rare plant species occur. While Nový and Obůrka are known for their pond ecosystems, wet meadow vegetation is the defining feature here. If you are planning a visit, check access in advance.

Village Layout and Chapel

Hrutov was laid out as a linear village with a village green and strip fields; its original settlement structure is well preserved. A linear village is a settlement laid out along a road, while the village green and strip fields refer to the village square and the division of the fields. This means that the historic village landscape comprises not only individual houses, but also the overall layout.

Architectural features add detail to the settlement layout: individual single-storey rural buildings with gabled roofs stand on the densely built-up village green. The village’s character can thus be understood both through its layout and through specific features of its buildings.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is located in Hrutov and was built in 1866. Pilgrimages to Hrutov’s chapel have a long and rich tradition. The year it was built and its pilgrimage tradition offer two distinct ways to understand the chapel: they place it both in the history of local architecture and in the religious tradition of the village. If a pilgrimage date is important to your travel plans, check the current dates in advance.

Road Orientation

There are also specific reference points for navigating the roads. Class III Road No. 4029 runs through Hrutov; in Brodce, it joins Road No. 4026, which connects Opatov and Kněžice. Distinguishing between the road through the village and the junction in Brodce helps you understand the route. If needed, use the road numbers as a starting point for planning your own journey.
