Horní Rožínka lies in a hilly landscape on a highland plateau, about 528 meters above sea level. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1366. Horní Rožínka was formerly known as Opatská Roženka, and occasionally simply as Roženka. The village’s history can be traced through its buildings, historical ownership records, and biographical connections; several cycling and horseback riding routes also pass through the village.

Architecture and Local History

A distinctive building is the shingle-roofed bell tower, with the Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the ground floor. The tower dates from the 19th century and was renovated in 1998. It is listed as a historic monument under catalog number 1000141257. Horní Rožínka remained in the ownership of Žďár Monastery until 1784.

A memorial plaque to Sylvestr Blaha is located on the corner of farmhouse No. 3, opposite the chapel in Horní Rožínka. Blaha later headed the military office of President T. G. Masaryk and also served in this role under President Edvard Beneš. The prominent Czech economist Jan Koloušek was born in Horní Rožínka, Moravia, on December 15, 1859. The village’s history also includes the summer outings traditionally held by the fire brigade every summer beneath the chestnut trees.
