Dobroutov is a destination for travelers who want to take local history and a rural setting into account when choosing a hotel. The village is located on Road II/351, which connects Polná and Třebíč. Notable features include historic crosses, the old “lochy” on the outskirts, Masopust and the landscape of the Křižanovská vrchovina. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Dobroutov, these features can help you assess whether cultural and landscape themes suit the purpose of your trip.

Landscape and geographical orientation

The natural landscape of the Křižanovská vrchovina surrounds Dobroutov. The village’s cadastral area includes Ochoz, considered the largest forest complex in the Polná region. Thus, in addition to the village itself, a larger forest area and the surrounding natural landscape help define the destination.

The Zhořský potok flows through Dobroutov. In Polná, it joins the Šlapanka stream, a tributary of the Sázava. A 10 km hiking route from Polná offers a view of Dobroutov after a climb. This makes it possible to experience the local landscape on a hike that starts in Polná and looks out over the village.

Crosses, chapel and local tradition

Two very old cellars, built into a slope, have been preserved on the outskirts of the village. Locally, they are called “lochy.” They provide a different architectural feature from the religious memorials in the village: by the stream in the village square, opposite house No. 48, stands a stone reconciliation cross with an engraved cross.

According to local tradition, two French soldiers are said to have died there in a duel over a girl. This story is part of local folklore; it describes the traditional interpretation of the reconciliation cross. The Chapel of St. John the Baptist belongs to the Roman Catholic Parish of Polná. There is also a statue of St. John the Baptist on the road to Polná, a work by sculptor Václav Viktor Morávek from Polná.

A wooden Romanian cross from 1945 was replaced by a permanent, faithful replica made of steel tubing. In 2014, a new cross donated by the Romanian side was unveiled in Dobroutov in the presence of representatives of the Romanian embassy. Together, these details add specific materials, dates and participants to the local memorial sites.

Masopust and recurring events

Events are also part of the village’s character. Dobroutov regularly holds a musical Masopust costume parade. The recurring wine walk “Dobroutovské putování za vínem” is another event. A traditional fishing event takes place at Horní rybník, behind the stadium. These occasions differ from the permanent memorial sites described above: they give a visit an event-focused theme, while the crosses, chapel and landscape shape the village’s character year-round. If you plan to time your trip to coincide with one of these events, check the dates in advance.
