Luka nad Jihlavou brings together cultural history and a few activity-related options. The castle is closed to the public, and the town’s history is also spread across other distinct points of interest. This makes it possible to consider architectural periods, everyday history and activity options separately.

Baroque Architecture and Places of Remembrance

Luka nad Jihlavou Castle is a two-storey Baroque building. It was built from 1739 to 1747 on the site of a ruined Renaissance fortress. The sequence brings together two building phases at one location: the earlier fortification was followed by the later castle. A spacious English-style park with rare trees surrounds the castle. It is privately owned and closed to the public. If you are considering a visit, check access again before planning your trip.

The Baroque chapel of Panny Marie Pomocné stands in the castle park. It was built in 1734 at the expense of Countess Anna von Gellhorn—five years before construction of the castle began. A Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from the first half of the 18th century, is also located near the castle. The chapel has a specific construction year, while the statue is dated to the first half of the century. Together, the two sites offer a glimpse of Baroque design, though they do not share the same history of origin.

The monumental late Baroque parish church was built from 1755 to 1763 on the site of a demolished medieval church. A Romanesque tower façade was preserved. The sequence is therefore clear: the medieval church was demolished, the older tower façade was retained, and the present-day church was built in the 18th century. The Romanesque structure is part of the parish church, not the castle.

A valuable stone cross also stands at the parish church. It was created in 1848 to commemorate the abolition of the robot obligation. The year refers to the occasion being commemorated, not to the construction date of the church. The cross thus adds a reminder of social change to the architectural history.

Museum and Everyday History

The Luka nad Jihlavou Museum focuses on the material aspects of rural life. It displays authentic objects, including kitchen equipment, furniture, traditional costumes and handicrafts; individual exhibits may change. Everyday culture is therefore a focus alongside the buildings. The museum regularly holds themed exhibitions that broaden the view of local history and traditions. Exhibition dates may change. The displays also include a presentation of the ticket office at Luka nad Jihlavou railway station.

Cycling Route and Ski Lift as Travel Options

Luka nad Jihlavou railway station is 200 metres from the ski lift. There is also a connection to cycling: the Luka nad Jihlavou–Jihlava cycle path is listed as part of the Jihlava–Raabs cycle route. These two details offer different approaches to planning. The first describes the distance between the railway station and the ski lift; the second places a named cycle path within a cycling route. When looking for a hotel, you can therefore consider whether your trip will be shaped more by the cultural history, the proximity to the ski lift or cycling. Then compare specific hotel offers according to your own travel requirements.
