Dalečín: History, Church and Routes
Accommodation in Dalečín
When looking for a hotel in Dalečín, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: castle and church history, the landscape around the Vír Reservoir, or a route that starts in Dalečín. The sites and trails differ in their historical details, lengths and access information.
Castle and Church History
The first written mention of Dalečín Castle dates from 1358. At that time, it came into the possession of the Lords of Pernštejn. This date provides a clear historical reference point for the town.
Wall and ceiling paintings dating from the late 14th century have been preserved on the ground floor of the tower at the Church of St James. The largest and oldest bell in the tower is called Jakub. It was cast by Adam, a bell founder from Velké Meziříčí, in 1561. The church also houses an organ from the early 19th century and three altars. The historical milestones span the late-medieval paintings, the dated bell and the early-19th-century organ.
Landscape and Protected Nature
The landscape around Dalečín is part of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. The Chudobín Pine is up to 350 years old and won the 2020 European Tree of the Year competition. Because it is located in the protected zone of the Vír Reservoir, entering the area is strictly prohibited; the tree can be viewed from the lookout point on the opposite shore. Follow the signs on site. This allows you to take both your interest in nature and the access restrictions into account when planning your visit.
Two Routes Starting in Dalečín
The 34-kilometre Údolí historie route starts in Dalečín. A bus journey from Bystřice nad Pernštejnem is recommended to reach its starting point. Check the timetable before departure, as this recommendation applies to this particular route. Another option is the Svratecká vodohospodářská naučná stezka, which also starts in Dalečín and is 16.1 kilometres long in total. It follows the Svratka, runs along the right bank of the Vír Reservoir and past the Vírská skalka Nature Reserve, and continues on forest paths to Švařec.
The Svratecká vodohospodářská naučná stezka has numerous stops with educational texts, maps and aerial photographs. The route lengths allow for a direct comparison: at 16.1 kilometres, this trail is less than half the length of the 34-kilometre Údolí historie. The two routes therefore differ both in length and in their stated points of interest; surface conditions may vary.
Mountain Biking Event
