Pyšná offers options for a stay focused on winter sports, hiking or local history. The main winter attraction is the Skiareál Pyšná ski area, with three ski slopes and three drag lifts capable of transporting 1,540 people per hour. The ski area lies at an altitude of 613 to 730 metres. It is also important to bear in mind when planning that several activities are seasonal.

Winter sports at the Skiareál Pyšná

The ski area offers downhill and cross-country skiing. Those looking for ski lessons will find a ski school with a rope tow. The children’s ski park has fun obstacles, while the snow park offers obstacles for snowboarders as well as a cross-country course. These activities cater to different interests, from lessons and obstacles to ski slopes and trails. Which ones are suitable for your trip also depends on the season and operating conditions.

Thanks to artificial lighting, evening skiing is also possible at the Skiareál Pyšná. It is seasonal and subject to operating conditions. Free parking is available to visitors at the ski area; its availability may also depend on seasonal conditions. Check current operating information before you travel, especially if you plan to ski in the evening or want to combine your visit with a specific winter activity.

Another option for cross-country and downhill routes is the section of the Krušnohorská běžecká magistrála near Lesná. The trail network there covers a total of 13.6 kilometres and connects Svahová, Pyšná, Lesná, Brandov and Nová Ves v Horách. The types of trails and the places they pass through make this section a different option to plan around than the slopes and lifts at the ski area. Trail grooming is seasonal.

Hiking trails and climbing area

For a hike starting in Pyšná, the named trail “Z Pyšné přes Jedlovou do Vysoké Pece” is a specific option: it is 13 kilometres long. The Červený Hrádek circular trail is considerably longer, at 32.9 kilometres, with 677 metres of elevation gain. It passes through Pyšná and continues to the Nad Lesnou-odb. signpost; it is designated as a circular trail. The distances and elevation gains help distinguish the two routes by their stated scope; no walking times are provided. Trail conditions may change.

The Kočičí skály climbing area is also near Pyšná. Most of the routes are long and difficult, but there are also a few easier ones. Access and climbing conditions may vary. The forest route known as Sluneční cesta takes about ten minutes to reach Kočičí skály. This approximate time refers to the route to the rocks; it is not a walking time for a climbing route.

Local history and landscape

The earliest surviving record of the village dates from 1383. It was then called Stolczenhain; later it was known as Stolzenhan, and its Czech name is Pyšná. It is also recorded that Pyšná belonged to Nový Žeberk Castle in 1383. These two details offer a historical introduction to the place without implying that the castle is open to visitors or accessible today.

Mining is also part of Pyšná’s history: iron ore mining was more productive than silver ore mining. In 1835, Josef Gunzel of Pyšná applied for mining rights for silver ores under the protected name “Jeronýmův stříbrný důl”. This was a historical application, not an indication that visitors can tour a mine today. Pyšná is also located in a protected landscape area.

When choosing your travel dates, it is worth considering these activities separately: some winter sports are seasonal, while the hiking and climbing routes described have their own conditions. Check current operating and trail conditions before your visit. This will help you match the activities mentioned in Pyšná and the surrounding area to your planned stay.
