Přestavlky U Roudnice Nad Labem combines a long local history with a large village square, a regulated watercourse, and a variety of landscape and event themes. When planning your trip, you can explore the place from several perspectives: archaeological and written evidence, historic farmsteads, vegetation, and local sporting traditions.

History Across Several Eras

Urnfields in the vicinity of Přestavlky attest to settlement in the area as early as pre-Christian times. The first written mention of the place dates from 1227: Přestavlky is named in an inventory of the possessions of a Benedictine nunnery. The two pieces of evidence relate to different periods and areas: the urnfields are in the vicinity, while the entry concerns the village itself.

During the Thirty Years’ War, Přestavlky was completely looted and burned down. The devastation was so severe that the village lay in ruins for several years. This wartime destruction marked a clear later turning point after the early settlement traces and the first written mention.

An official NPÚ entry, updated on 9 June 2023, lists the area “Přestavlky – intravilán vsi a okolí” as an archaeological site in category ÚAN I.

Historic Village Center and Square

A group of farmsteads forms the historic center of Přestavlky. A chapel and farmsteads with distinctive gates bearing a sun motif stand in the large village square. Přestavlky is also home to a late-Gothic stone wayside shrine. At the edge of the village, a roadside niche chapel stands on the road to Nížebohy.

These structures have different distinguishing features: the farmsteads stand out for their gates with a sun motif, while the wayside shrine is notable for its late-Gothic form and stone construction. The niche chapel is identified by its location at the edge of the village, on the road to Nížebohy. This makes it possible to distinguish the village square, the village center, and the outskirts as separate reference points for the structures described.

The Tvrdodolská svodnice, a regulated watercourse lined with bankside and accompanying vegetation, flows through the village center. The watercourse and vegetation are therefore part of the village scene, alongside the farmsteads and religious buildings.

Landscape and Getting Your Bearings

Above Přestavlky, a south-facing slope features forest-steppe vegetation, broad-leaved dry grasslands, thermophilous shrubs, and acid-loving, thermophilous oak forests on sand. The landscape description thus encompasses several vegetation types on a single slope. Together with the regulated watercourse in the village center, this creates a contrast between the vegetation described above the village and the accompanying planting along the water.

A stabilized riding route runs through Přestavlky along existing roads. There are no hiking trails in the area. The distinction is important for planning: the riding route is a designated route for equestrian use, while hiking trails are absent from the area.

Local Sporting Traditions

A cyclocross course is located in the forest south of Přestavlky, where various sporting events are held. Mountain bike races are also regularly held in the forest south of the village, including “Přestavlcký vlk.” Both pieces of information concern the forest south of Přestavlky; they refer to different forms of cycling.

Established local traditions include the Přestavlky cross-country race, the cycling event “Přestavlky bez šlápnutí,” and firefighting competitions. Local events thus range from running and cycling to firefighting contests. If you are planning your trip around a particular race, check its date in advance.
