Libouchec brings together sacred architecture, castle history, protected wetlands and an opportunity to try golf. If you choose your destination based on specific cultural and nature themes, you’ll find several distinct highlights here: the church with its Baroque details, the “Libouchecké rybníčky” protected area, tours of the castle grounds, and golf and a municipal puzzle trail.

Nature at Libouchecké rybníčky

“Libouchecké rybníčky” is one of the most important amphibian spawning sites in the Labské pískovce Protected Landscape Area. The nature reserve protects populations of rare and endangered fish species; more than 20 dragonfly species are also found there. In addition, it includes a wet alder forest with a diverse amphibian community. So this nature theme extends beyond the spawning grounds: fish populations, dragonflies and a distinctive forest habitat are also part of the protected area. If you’re interested in biodiversity, you’ll encounter several different aspects of a wetland here.

The church and its Baroque details

The late Gothic church “Kostel sv. Tří králů” stands within a historic cemetery complex. The approach is also part of its architectural character: a straight Baroque staircase climbs the slope above the main road running through Libouchec to the church. Between the cemetery boundary gate and the church steps stands the Baroque crucifixion group “Kalvárie”, dating from 1728. Here, different periods of design can be distinguished: the late Gothic church, the Baroque approach and the dated sculptural group. Those interested in architectural history can also take note of the staircase and the location of the crucifixion group within the cemetery complex, as well as the church itself.

Castle history and the Botschen family chapel

Another way to explore the area’s history is Zámek Libouchec. Guided tours present the architectural and historical development of the Libouchec castle grounds. This offers a different focus from looking at the church: here, the focus is on the development of the castle grounds, while the church stands out for its different architectural forms and crucifixion group.

The Botschen family’s Secessionist chapel dates from the late 19th century and is located on a wooded hill near Libouchec. To reach the chapel, take the road from the cemetery in Libouchec towards Tisá, then continue along a footpath of about 300 m. The route may change, so check it before your visit. The chapel adds a different architectural theme and a location on a wooded hill to the selection.

Golf and a puzzle trail

Visitors can try golf and learn from specialists at the Golf Club Libouchec’s public 9-hole course. The course is also suitable for beginners. Visitor rules may change, so check the current conditions before your visit. The municipality also offers the “Výlet s tajenkou” puzzle trail. The two activities appeal to different interests: golf focuses on trying the sport and learning with guidance, while the trail offers a puzzle format. You can choose an activity based on the kind of experience you prefer.

A distinctive watercourse

The local waterways also offer a specific geographical point of interest. The Klíšský potok rises in Libouchec at an altitude of 447 m. There, a small tributary branches off from the Jílovský potok over an artificial watershed; this branching is known as a bifurcation. The two streams have different roles: the Klíšský potok is the smaller stream that rises there and branches off from the Jílovský potok. If you’re interested in waterways as well as architectural history and biodiversity, this hydrological feature adds another theme to Libouchec’s other attractions.
