Discover Zubrnice through several distinct themes: the village has been a heritage conservation area since 1995 and offers points of interest ranging from architectural history and exhibitions to marked hiking trails. When planning your trip, you can give each of these themes its own focus rather than combining them into a single itinerary. The buildings tell the story of different eras; the museums add insights into railway and everyday history.

Architectural history with specific dates

The Church of St Mary Magdalene (Kostel sv. Maří Magdaleny) is originally Gothic and was later remodelled in the Baroque style. It therefore features two distinct building phases: its Gothic origins and its later Baroque transformation. It is an example of the different historical layers that shape Zubrnice.

The agricultural estate at No. 61 can also be dated precisely. It is based on a two-storey hop farmer’s house dating from 1808. Another building with its own distinct history is the Baroque fountain from Střížovice: it dates from 1695 and was the first structure to be moved to Zubrnice, in 1977. The fountain’s construction date and its later relocation are separate milestones in its history.

Mills and everyday history

Valšův Mill is accessible and operational in the valley of the Luční potok. The mill’s name, its location in the valley and its described condition give you a specific point of reference if you are interested in the history of mills.

An exhibition at the Kupecký krám – Franz a Oswald Saidl, No. 74, reveals another aspect of everyday life in the past. It focuses on mangling and washing clothes. So rather than building styles or railway transport, it covers everyday activities. When comparing the village’s themes, this exhibition represents domestic work, while the church and the estate at No. 61 present architectural history.

Railway Museum: Vehicles, Rooms and Route

The Zubrnice Railway Museum displays two railcars: a Tatra Dm6 passenger railcar from the film Ostře sledované vlaky and a Hungarian railcar from the film Rebelové. Each vehicle is linked to a film. This comparison offers a straightforward way into the subject during your visit: as well as serving a railway function, the railcars are connected to film history.

The railway museum also has a historic waiting room and a signal box open to visitors. One of the wooden buildings presents the history of the Velké Březno – Lovečkovice – Verneřice – Úštěk horní nádraží (LGWA) railway line. The vehicles, rooms and railway history represent different aspects of the museum, ranging from the railcars themselves to railway work and the history of the named line.

Hiking trails and routes

Red- or green-marked hiking trails lead from Zubrnice. Stage IV of the Výroční stezka follows a specific route through named places: from Buková hora via Zubrnice to Homole u Panny, Sedlo and Litýš.

Conditions on hiking trails can vary. Check them again for your planned date before setting out. If you are looking for a hotel in Zubrnice, architectural history, exhibitions and hiking can each provide a different focus for your stay.
