Topolany offers a range of interests: sacred art in St. Nicholas Church, sports at the multi-purpose sports ground, a hiking trail on the southern edge of the village, and examples of events with specific dates. You can therefore consider culture, sports and hiking as different focuses for your stay.

Church and Local History

Behind the main altar in St. Nicholas Church is a painting of Saint Nicholas by the Viennese painter Felix Leichert. Its subject and the artist, who is known by name, make the altarpiece a specific point of interest for anyone interested in religious painting. Services are held in the church regularly on Sundays and once on a weekday. If attending a service is part of your visit, check the current schedule beforehand, as it may change.

The graves of Klement Gottwald’s parents are located in the Topolany cemetery.

Sports and Gatherings

You can play tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball and nohejbal at the multi-purpose sports ground. These sports give you a specific range of options if physical activity is one of your interests. The list combines racket sports such as tennis and badminton with team sports such as volleyball and basketball; nohejbal adds another sport to the mix. You can compare the options by type of game.

The local community centre can be used for cultural events and similar gatherings. This offers a different kind of activity from the individual sports at the multi-purpose sports ground. If your trip is tied to a particular event date, check it in advance.

Events with Specific Dates

On 20 June 2026, Topolany hosted the 13th edition of the young firefighters’ competition in fire attack. This is a specific example of a local competition and is clearly distinct from the seasonal programmes held in earlier years.

The Halloween trail was scheduled for 2 November 2024 as a traditional autumn experience. Lights, lanterns and illuminated figures were planned, along with a spooky challenge.

A Christmas market was scheduled for 7 December 2024 as a regular part of the Advent season. The planned offerings included handicrafts, traditional Christmas decorations, decorative items and regional specialities for sale; children’s workshops were also planned. The two seasonal programmes had different focuses: the trail centred on lights and spooky elements, while the Christmas market focused on goods and workshops for children.

Hiking Trail on the Southern Edge of the Village

A blue-marked hiking trail runs along the southern edge of Topolany. It leads from Vyškov towards the Orlovická vrchovina and the ruins of Orlov Castle. The route description thus indicates both the direction of the landscape and the ruins as a destination. Check the current route before setting out on a hike.
