Suchov lies on the edge of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and at the foot of Velká Javořina. Its settlement pattern is closely linked to the terrain: the village slopes down from the foothills as a linear settlement and stretches along a gently rounded ridge between two streams. The landscape designation places Suchov in its regional setting; the linear form, by contrast, describes how the village extends along the ridge.

Chapels and cultural history

The Chapel of St. Luke was consecrated on 23 October 2005; its altar contains relics of St. John Sarkander. Services have been held there regularly on Sundays and Wednesdays since its consecration. If you plan to attend a service, please check the current schedule in advance. These three details offer different points of reference: the date places the consecration in context, the relics point to the religious heritage, and the services are relevant to visitors with a religious focus.

A chapel at the upper end of the village dates from the 15th century. The Súchovská republika is also part of the village’s cultural history: it was founded in 1882 and continues to be maintained today. Together, these points of reference represent different timelines—from a sacred building dating to the Middle Ages to a cultural institution that has continued since its founding.

Suchovské Mlýny and the millsteads

Suchovské Mlýny is a settlement belonging to the municipality of Suchov, where buildings of folk architecture from the 19th century have been preserved. The mill system lies on the banks of the Jamné stream between Javorník and Vápenky. It consists of closed millsteads that have since been converted, and its history dates back to the Middle Ages. Here, preserved 19th-century architectural forms meet the much older history of the mill system. Visitors interested in architecture will find not only a single period of construction, but also a broader historical context.

Cycling routes and different points of reference

The 35 km Česnekářská cycling route, rated as easy, passes through Suchovské Mlýny and Suchov. It is a practical option for cyclists who want to experience both places on one route. The distance and rating answer different planning questions: one specifies the route length, while the other gives its difficulty category.

The Velká Javořina circular route passes the monument to Stanislav Tomášek in Suchov and continues from there to the Suchovský Háj signpost. Another cycling route, “Cyklotrasa Bílé Karpaty – Javorník – Velká Javořina – Suchov,” reaches the upper end of Suchov. The routes have different points of reference: the Česnekářská is described by its length and rating, the monument and signpost are key stops on the circular route, and the other cycling route is identified by its destination at the upper end of the village. As surfaces and route conditions can change, check the current situation before setting out.
