If you’re looking for a hotel in Lipov, what interests you about the town can shape your choice of stay: Lipov combines church and folklore history with nature-related attractions on the southern edge of the White Carpathians. There is also a municipal swimming pool, as well as hiking and cycling routes. The following highlights can help you decide how to explore the culture, landscape and leisure activities, depending on your interests.

Church and local history

The Church of All Saints is considered Lipov’s most important landmark and is located in the town centre. In 1880, a new building in the Neo-Romanesque style was erected on the site of the former church. The church interior features wooden galleries and a decorated wooden ceiling. The site brings together the history of the earlier church, the construction of the new building in the 19th century and distinctive features of the interior.

Folklore and events

Lipov lies in the Moravian part of the White Carpathians and is one of the villages in the distinctive ethnographic region of Horňácko. The folklore ensemble LIPOVJAN is named after Lipov and was founded in 1972. In Lipov, it organises the church fair, the Štěpánská beseda u cimbálu and Christmas carol singing. As part of the annual Májová beseda u cimbálu, the ensemble holds a regional round of the competition for the best dancer of the Slovácko verbuňk dance every two years.

Other important local events include Lipovský fašanek, Lipovské hody and the preview of the Mladé Horňácko folklore festival. If one of these events matters to your trip, check the latest dates locally in advance.

The traditional costume also reflects Lipov’s distinct cultural identity. Today’s costume differs from those of other Horňácko communities because of influences from the neighbouring regions of Strážnicko, Veselsko and Ostrožsko. This should be distinguished from Lipov’s old costume, which was reconstructed in 2000.

Nature, routes and swimming pool

The White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area extends along Lipov’s southern edge in a narrow strip beside the road from Tasov to Hrubá Vrbka. Another natural feature is Háj u Lipova: the area is a protected natural monument and was first designated on 4 July 1956. It protects a site where the rare two-leaved squill grows.

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Lipov. It runs towards Veselí nad Moravou or, in the opposite direction, to Velká nad Veličkou and onwards to Velká Javořina. The direction you choose is a practical starting point for planning your hike; check the current trail markings before setting off. The Horňácký okruh cycle route passes through Lipov’s cadastral area. Check cycling maps when planning your current route.

The municipal swimming pool is located on the Velička in the foothills of the White Carpathians. Its stainless-steel swimming pool measures 33 × 20 metres; facilities also include a 6 × 6 metre paddling pool, a slide and a beach volleyball court. It operates seasonally, so check before travelling whether it will be open during your visit.

Wine production linked to Lipov

Wine production is also directly linked to the town: AGROLIP produces country wines, quality wines and wines with a designation of origin from grapes grown in its own vineyards in the cadastral areas of Lipov and Louka. Together with its folklore and landscape features, this gives a picture of Lipov that brings cultural traditions and connections with nature side by side.
