Pametice: History, Nature and Traditions
Accommodation in Pametice
Pametice combines a clearly recognizable local history with connections to nature and local events. The main points of interest are the chapel in the oldest, central, circular part of the municipality, the Pamětický úval landscape complex and the forest by the Amerika district. Part of a former sand quarry at Ve Skale has been developed as an excursion area. This lets you explore the area in different ways, focusing on settlement history, nature or local events and the marked cycling route.
The Chapel and Early Local History
The chapel is the most distinctive building in the oldest and also central, circular part of Pametice. It was ceremonially opened in 1938. Extensive renovation began in 2000; in 2002, the original cast-iron bell was replaced with a new one.
Pametice grew from an old settlement with four farmsteads arranged in a square. The name Pametice comes from the farmer Paměta, who named the settlement in 1145. The arrangement of the farmsteads and the origin of the name show two different aspects of the area’s early history: its spatial layout and a specific historical connection behind its name.
Landscape and Nature
The Pamětický úval is an ecologically significant landscape complex of local biogeographic importance. The forest by the Amerika district is another point of connection with nature. It borders Amerika and stretches between Vísky, Drválovice, Kladoruby and Letovice; it offers tourists opportunities to relax in nature. The named landscape complex and the forest lying between several places thus represent two distinct natural features.
Ve Skale and Local Events
At Ve Skale, part of a former sand quarry has been developed as an excursion area and is used for summer sports games and cultural events, especially dances. This sets Ve Skale apart from the chapel: here the focus is on a developed area and its recreational and cultural uses, while the chapel is a distinctive building in the town center. For a trip with a cultural focus, this contrast distinguishes architectural history from the use of a venue for events.
The local events calendar includes a range of occasions. O Pamětický pohár is a firefighting sports competition and part of the Velká cena Blanenska. Masopust is a traditional masked parade through Pametice; in the evening, the best masks are awarded prizes in the hall of the cultural center. The communal pond’s fish harvest is an autumn event with plentiful refreshments and usually takes place on a Saturday. These events differ in their occasion and format: a competition, a parade followed by an evening mask awards ceremony, and an autumn event at the pond. If you plan to visit for a particular festival or competition, check the latest event announcements in advance.
The Pametice cultural center provides space for local cultural and social events. During Masopust, its hall is where the evening awards ceremony takes place. The cultural center is therefore not just an event venue, but also part of the tradition’s described proceedings.
