Šebrov-Kateřina: Church, Stream Landscape and Trails
Accommodation in Šebrov-Kateřina
Šebrov-Kateřina offers starting points for a stay focused on architecture, landscape and trails. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider what you want your stay to focus on: the Church of St. Catherine, the stream landscape of the Šebrovka or a viewpoint in the surrounding area.
Stream landscape and local history
Šebrov lies in a lower-lying hollow where streams converge; at the same time, the terrain is hilly. Historically, the Šebrovka was a border stream and divided Šebrov between two estates. As a result, the stream is not only a landscape feature but also part of the village’s history.
To the north, the Vranovské lesy border the built-up areas of Šebrov-Kateřina. The local Nezbedka biocentre encompasses the Šebrovka Valley, with meadows and adjoining woodland. A higher proportion of naturally occurring species in the woodland is among the features described at the Na Šebrovce biocentre. The two areas have different emphases: Nezbedka brings together valley, meadows and woodland, while Na Šebrovce is noted for the composition of its woodland.
The Church of St. Catherine
The Church of St. Catherine was built in the 15th century on a rocky promontory near Šebrov in the Late Rustic Gothic style. The building has three naves; its construction is traditionally dated to 1469. The style describes the church’s architectural classification, while the three naves describe the layout of its interior.
A large gravestone in the front left-hand area of the nave is said to seal the entrance to a crypt beneath the church. The church can be reached by IDS-JMK bus route 152, via the Sv. Kateřina stop. Check the current route before travelling, as transport details can change.
Cycling route and green trail
The cycling route known as “cyklotrasa P. Bezruče” runs through the administrative area of Šebrov-Kateřina from north to south. Within the area, it follows access roads through woodland and along the Šebrovka River. Its route is therefore defined by both its direction and the forest and river landscape.
Another point of reference is the green-marked trail from the centre of Šebrov-Kateřina to a viewpoint near the Duchova rozhledna. It is 1.2 kilometres long. These offer different things to consider when planning: the cycling route is defined by its north–south course and landscape, while the green trail is defined by its stated length and the viewpoint as its destination.
Views of wooded hills and karst
In the surroundings of Šebrov-Kateřina, the Duchova rozhledna offers southward views of wooded hills and the karst landscape of the Moravian Karst. There is also a rest area nearby with seating and a fire pit. If this outdoor facility is important to your plans, check its current condition before your visit. This lets you consider the view and available places to rest as separate points of interest alongside the church, stream landscape and routes.
