Nosislav can be explored through several distinct themes: historic churches and the Nosislavská vodní tvrz, the river landscape along the Svratka, and named routes. When planning your trip, you can decide which themes to focus on depending on whether you are most interested in architectural history, natural features or a cycling tour.

Churches with Different Architectural Histories

The Catholic Church of sv. Jakuba Staršího is the only fortified church in the Brno-venkov area. Its fortifications include a bastion at the southeast corner and numerous loopholes; they are four to eight metres high. These features together give the church a distinctive architectural character: alongside the religious building itself, its defensive design is also a focus. For travellers interested in cultural history, the bastion, loopholes and wall height provide specific points of reference for understanding the structure.

The Protestant church offers a different architectural and historical perspective. The protected building dates from the 19th century and was constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style. It is considered a historical testament to the development of religion in Moravia. Since 1993, the church has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and listed under registration number 8554. In contrast to the fortified Catholic church, the focus here is on the 19th-century architectural style and its explicitly stated monument status.

The Nosislavská vodní tvrz

The protected monument complex of the Nosislavská vodní tvrz includes the Gothic fortress No. 72, an annex and a covered entrance staircase. The most valuable lower section of the wall, a bay window in the house and a painted ceiling have survived from the complex. The massive walls have a Gothic floor plan. Its features therefore range from the shape of the walls to individual details inside the house. Traces of a moat are also visible around the water fortress. Together, these features provide several specific architectural points of reference for exploring the historic building.

River Landscape along the Svratka

The Nosislavská zátočina features a double meander, sandy beaches, gravel banks and steep, eroded banks. It is one of the last remaining meanders on the lower Svratka. In this stretch, the river retains the character of a natural watercourse lined with riverside vegetation. The combination of sand, gravel and eroded banks highlights the different forms of the river landscape. In Nosislav, architectural history and natural features therefore stand side by side as distinct interests to consider when planning a trip.

Cycling Routes and Navigation

The “Po hranici parku” cycling loop passes through Židlochovice, Nosislav and Blučina. The Svatojakubská cesta, by contrast, is defined by the course of the river and a named destination: it follows the left bank of the Svratka to the Boudecký Bridge. The two routes can therefore be compared using different details: the named towns for the cycling loop, and the left bank and bridge for the Svatojakubská cesta. If you would like to plan your trip around a route, you can use these specific features as a starting point for your planning.

Wine and Burčák at Otevřené sklepy Nosislav

At “Otevřené sklepy Nosislav”, visitors sample wine and Burčák from local winemakers. Traditionally, the event takes place on the first Saturday in September from 12 noon. If you are planning your stay around this occasion, check the specific event date in advance. This allows you to include the event in your travel plans without assuming a particular date for any given year.
