Discover Ivančice: Exhibitions, Tower and Pekárka
Accommodation in Ivančice
Ivančice offers something for a range of interests: culture, architecture, nature and cycling are represented by specific destinations and routes. These include two permanent exhibitions, the Ivančice Tower, the Romanesque church in Řeznovice, the Pekárka Natural Monument and two cycling routes. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ivančice, these themes can help you plan your stay around the activities you have in mind.
Exhibitions and the Ivančice Tower
The Renaissance building housing the Alfons Mucha Memorial in Ivančice is home to permanent exhibitions about Vladimír Menšík and Alfons Mucha, open year-round. The exhibition about Menšík features personal belongings, family photos, documents and photographs from films in which the actor appeared. The Alfons Mucha exhibition includes, among other things, sketches for The Slav Epic, a study for a stained-glass window in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and other graphic works. The two exhibitions therefore have different focuses: personal and family memorabilia, along with film photographs, on the one hand, and sketches and graphic works on the other. Check the current visiting hours before your visit; opening arrangements may change.
The oldest parts of the Ivančice Tower—the first two floors—date from the 13th century. The climb to the gallery involves 140 steps, including intermediate steps. Scheduled guided tours are offered from April to October; groups can arrange visits outside these times through the Ivančice Cultural and Information Centre. Check the tour schedule before your visit if you plan to visit the tower.
Romanesque architecture in Řeznovice
Řeznovice is a district of Ivančice. It is home to a surviving Romanesque church, considered an important architectural monument of European significance. The church has distinctive features comparable to buildings in Italy’s northern Lombardy region dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. This gives the church its own architectural focus alongside the exhibitions and the tower. Comparisons with similar buildings draw attention to the design of this Romanesque church.
Pekárka Natural Monument
Pekárka is a protected natural monument in Ivančice, within the cadastral area of Alexovice. It protects rock communities as well as grass and herb communities with scattered woody plants on conglomerate slopes. The European-protected Moravian carnation (Dianthus moravicus) also grows there. Pekárka includes rocks formed from Permo-Carboniferous Rokytná conglomerates. This destination is notable both for its protected communities and its geological features.
Access to Pekárka is unrestricted; by car, you can get to within about 250 metres of the site. Check local access conditions before setting out.
Cycling routes and choosing a route
If you’re choosing based on route type and length, there are two distinct cycling routes to consider: the 39-kilometre Templářská themed loop passes through Řeznovice, Ivančice, Alexovice and Letkovice. The 3.2-kilometre cycle path from Oslavany to Ivančice starts in Oslavany and connects in Ivančice at Na Volvách Street. You can choose between a longer themed loop through four named places and a shorter connection from Oslavany to Ivančice. These route details give you a concrete basis for including your preferred type of route in your plans.
