Heršpice: Discover churches, Konůvky and Jalový dvůr
Accommodation in Heršpice
Heršpice brings together 19th-century churches, archaeological traces of medieval settlement and the Jalový dvůr Nature Monument. These themes offer different ways to explore local history and the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Heršpice, the area’s historical and natural highlights may play a role in choosing your destination.
Churches and historical traces
At the centre of Heršpice stands the Catholic Church of St Matthew, dating from 1870. The Protestant church was built between 1864 and 1869. The construction periods are close together, but they belong to two different churches and provide clearly dated reference points in the local history of churches and architecture.
A precisely dated event is also associated with the Protestant church: Tomáš G. Masaryk joined the Protestant church there on 31 August 1880. The building is thus linked to Heršpice not only through its construction date, but also through a specific historical connection.
Another historical trace is Hrádek Kepkov, where the relief of a round castle site is well preserved. The 27 × 23-metre residential area is fortified by a double rampart and a ditch. The round castle site describes the shape of the complex; the rampart and ditch are its named defensive features.
Konůvky: medieval settlement and manor house
The medieval settlement of Konůvky has disappeared and lies within the cadastral area of Heršpice. The visible foundation remains of 22 houses have been preserved in Konůvky. An educational trail with information panels runs through the archaeological site. The settlement’s structural remains and the information along the trail are thus presented together.
The Konůvky manor house complex also has its own classification: it can be understood as a structure between a manor farm and a fortress. Both building types serve as points of comparison, without the complex being assigned exclusively to either one.
Nature monument and route connections
The Jalový dvůr Nature Monument lies around the Heršpický rybník pond and the adjacent forest. The protected area was designated to protect the breeding of several amphibian species in the pond and the occurrence of Pontic-Pannonian plant species. Its protection therefore covers both amphibians in the pond and certain plant occurrences.
A cycling route is also connected with the nature monument: Route No. 507 from Ostrov u Macochy to the Ždánický les runs along Jalový dvůr. Another route description leads to the historic meadow valley: from Rašovice or Heršpice, it takes just under two hours to reach the picturesque meadow valley where the medieval settlement of Konůvky was located, following the valley of the Křižanovický potok. The two descriptions refer to different destinations: the route along the nature monument and the valley of the former settlement.
