Dobelice can be explored through a variety of themes: the short Stezka Lesním světem forest nature trail, buildings with local history, and natural and geological features at the Ledvice castle site and the Na Kocourkách locality. These offer different kinds of experiences. The trail combines nature education with a wetland and a larger rest area; the Zvonička na návsi focuses on its construction and reconstruction. Ledvice brings together the site of a former fortress and village with distinctive terrain features, while Na Kocourkách stands out for its fossils and protected habitats. When planning your trip, you can use these themes to decide whether architectural history, plant life or geological features interest you most.

Forest Nature Trail and Nature

The Stezka Lesním světem v Dobelicích is a short forest nature trail, about 0.5 km long, below Dobelice. As a forest nature trail, it combines nature education with a wetland and a larger rest area. If you are particularly interested in nature, this short trail offers a different focus from the area’s architectural and local history.

Architectural History and the Ledvice Site

The Zvonička na návsi, the bell tower on the village square, was built in 1881 and reconstructed in 2010. The reconstruction was part of celebrations marking the 750th anniversary of the founding of Dobelice. While these dates establish the timeline of the Zvonička’s history, the Kaplička na křižovatce is of interest as a valuable example of vernacular sacred architecture.

The site of the former fortress and village of Ledvice lies about half a kilometre southwest of Dobelice. At the Ledvice castle site, a prominent ditch divides the complex: it separates the central section from the slightly elevated outer bailey, making the distinction between the core area and the outer bailey clear.

Na Kocourkách: Geology and Protected Area

The Na Kocourkách geological locality consists of three small rises in the fields and is associated with Dobelice and Vémyslice. Fossil finds include shark teeth, mollusc shells, and fish vertebrae and teeth. The Na Kocourkách protected area safeguards semi-natural dry grasslands and populations of the large-flowered pasqueflower and the sand iris. Heat-loving plant communities with numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species are another defining feature. The rises describe the shape of the locality, while the fossils indicate its geological significance. The protected area, by contrast, draws attention to plant and animal life and the protected dry grasslands.

Plant Life in Early Spring

The Ledvice castle site is also of botanical interest. Several plant species grow there in early spring, including the Czech star-of-Bethlehem, the lesser star-of-Bethlehem, lesser celandine and pasqueflowers. Compared with Na Kocourkách, the season is especially significant at Ledvice: early spring plants are a feature here, while Na Kocourkách is defined by fossil finds and protected dry grasslands.
