Bohaté Málkovice: Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Bohaté Málkovice
Bohaté Málkovice offers two perspectives for planning your trip: local history and its sacred cultural monuments, and the surrounding natural landscape. The Zvonice na návsi, a local cultural and historical landmark, stands in the village square. West of the village is a plastered, masonry wayside shrine with a square ground plan.
Sacred Monuments and the Village Landscape
The wayside shrine consists of a smooth, four-sided base and a shaft that tapers slightly toward the middle. A narrow cornice separates the shaft from the lantern. Its four sides are arranged with rectangular niches and depictions of saints. Above, a gabled roof covered with fired tiles tops the shrine, with a small Latin cross on the roof. The individual structural elements give the monument a clearly articulated form, from the base to the roof finial.
Other cultural and historical points of interest include the Svatý kříž near the municipal office and the Stoletý kříž. The Svatý kříž was restored in 2008. The Stoletý kříž stands on the boundary between Bohaté Málkovice and the municipality of Kojátky. The monuments thus offer different points of interest: the restoration date is known for one, while the other is notable for its location on the municipal boundary. Together with the bell tower in the village square and the wayside shrine, they add to the picture of local history.
Historical Background
Bohaté Málkovice has been documented in historical records since 1307. In 1391, the entire village belonged to the Augustinian monastery. In 1920, the settlement was officially renamed from Německé to Bohaté. These three details relate to different chapters in the village's history: its early historical documentation, its later affiliation with the monastery and, finally, the name change. They provide a historical timeframe for the local cultural monuments without reducing their different locations and features to a single event.
Bohaté Málkovice has always been a purely agricultural settlement; the soil was highly fertile and the farmers were wealthy. The three known historical seals also document the village's agricultural character. Agriculture and sacred monuments thus offer different ways of exploring local history: the seals point to the area's agricultural character, while the bell tower, wayside shrine and crosses are specific cultural and historical points of interest.
Landscape and Nature in the Surrounding Area
The Větrník hill rises west of Bohaté Málkovice. In suitable weather and conditions, views from Větrník hill extend south to the Pálava Hills, north to Kopeček near Olomouc and east to Hostýn. Visibility depends on the weather and conditions.
Nearby, Bařisko includes a pond, a small pool and a wetland. The protected natural area of Větrníky is also in the surroundings of Bohaté Málkovice. Note the similar spelling: Větrník refers to the hill, while Větrníky is the protected area. The protected area preserves sub-Pannonian steppe grasslands, as well as semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub communities on calcareous ground. The protected area's species-rich xerothermic vegetation includes numerous rare and endangered Pontic-Pannonian species. Větrníky also preserves habitats for rare and endangered animal species, along with dry grassland and xerophilous scrub habitats. Before visiting the protected area, check the specific access conditions locally.
When planning your trip, you can consider the area's history and natural features separately: on one hand, there are the monuments, the agricultural character and the historical milestones; on the other, Větrník hill, Bařisko and the protected area of Větrníky. This lets you explore Bohaté Málkovice through the themes that are most interesting to you during your stay.
