The Chocholík Lookout Tower and the nearby wetland add distinctive features to the landscape, while the Church of St. Lawrence and the chateau represent different chapters in the town’s history. Cycle Route 5071 also passes through Drnovice. Before your trip, you can therefore choose between views, architectural history, cycling and a distinctive natural feature.

Views from Chocholík

The Chocholík Lookout Tower stands on the hill of the same name in Drnovice. The steel tower is 26 metres high and has 144 steps. From the top, you can see the surrounding area and, when visibility is good, peaks in the Beskids. Views of the mountains therefore depend on suitable visibility.

The tower is open to visitors free of charge all year round. A paved path from the local cemetery and marked hiking trails lead to it. As access conditions may change for safety reasons, check them before your visit.

Church, pilgrimage and the history of the chateau

The Church of St. Lawrence has a Late Gothic core. In the 16th century, a tower was added to its presbytery and nave. The church thus combines a Late Gothic core with a structural addition from the 16th century. The pilgrimage to St. Lawrence is associated with 10 August. If you would like to plan your trip around this occasion, check in advance whether a pilgrimage will take place on your chosen date.

A chateau in Drnovice was built by Jan Mundy between 1866 and 1869. From 1899 to 1947, it housed a care facility for 80 women. These dates mark two distinct periods in the chateau’s history: its construction in the 19th century and its later use as a care facility. The history of the chateau thus complements the church’s religious focus with the story of another historic building in Drnovice.

North of Chocholík Hill, among fields near Drnovice, lies the natural feature known as “Mokřad pod Chocholíkem”. It is a shallow hollow overgrown with reeds, with grass, shrubs and trees characterising its surroundings. The wetland is not a protected area. It offers a different landscape experience from the hilltop viewpoint.

On foot, you can reach the wetland from the Drnovice Na Žlebě bus stop via a blue-marked trail, a distance of about 1.9 km. From the cemetery, a yellow-marked field track leads there in about 1.3 km. Both distances are approximate. The field track from the cemetery to the wetland is passable by all types of bicycle. As conditions on field tracks may change, check the route and local conditions before setting out.

Cultural centre and local theatre tradition

Drnovice Cultural Centre has been used for exhibitions, conferences, discussion panels and performances by local amateur actors. They have a long-standing tradition in the municipality. If an event is a key part of your trip, check in advance whether anything is scheduled for your chosen date. This lets you take the town’s history and local theatre tradition into account when deciding whether to visit Drnovice, without assuming that an event will be taking place.
