Suchdol Nad Luznicí: Cycling Routes, Water and Nature
Accommodation in Suchdol Nad Luznicí
Suchdol Nad Luznicí brings together cycling routes, water and nature, along with a historic parish church, to help you plan your trip. The CC Lužnice passes through the town, and a themed route joins its main route here; the lakes of Pískovna Tušť are used for swimming and fishing in summer. Pískovna u Dračice is another nearby attraction, designated a small natural monument. If you are looking for a hotel in Suchdol Nad Luznicí, your planned activities can help you decide: will your stay focus mainly on cycling, days by the water or visits around town?
Church and Local History
The parish church Kostel sv. Mikuláše was founded in Gothic form in 1363. It was rebuilt after 1440, and in 1820 the nave was extended and a tower added. This sequence reveals several construction phases, rather than reducing the church to a single date of origin. The nave is the lengthwise-oriented main part of the church interior; its extension was part of the 1820 expansion. During the day, the church is accessible from the main entrance to the last rows of pews at the back. If you plan a visit, you can combine an overview of its architectural history with a look inside the accessible area.
Pískovna u Dračice Natural Monument
The 7.5-hectare Pískovna u Dračice Natural Monument lies east of Suchdol Nad Luznicí, near Františkov. Františkov is a district of the town. The area is mostly surrounded by pine and spruce trees, and its side areas are grassed. Its boundaries are formed by roads, pastures and the gravel-and-sand terraces of the Dračice stream along its left bank. An information board on site describes the area, its inhabitants and the rules of conduct for visitors. Pískovna u Dračice is also part of the Třeboňsko Bird Protection Area. A visit therefore offers both information about the landscape and guidance on what visitors should bear in mind in the area.
Sand Lakes, Swimming and Fishing
The lakes of Pískovna Tušť were created by sand extraction and are now used mainly for summer recreation, swimming and fishing. Velká pískovna in the area can be reached by car or by bicycle from Suchdol Nad Luznicí. If you would like to spend time by the water during your stay, swimming and fishing are two of the explicitly mentioned activities. Pískovna Tušť is part of the Lužnice 10B 421 042 fishing district. Sand extraction describes how the lakes originated; their current use is mainly associated with the summer months.
Cycling Routes Through Suchdol
For a bike ride, you can choose between two routes that differ in length and course. The 21.5-kilometre CC Lužnice runs from České Velenice to Klikov and passes through Suchdol Nad Luznicí. At the eastern edge of town, it follows the left bank of the Lužnice and one of its branches. The themed cycling route Paměti Vitorazska is 9.8 kilometres long and runs from Dvory nad Lužnicí via Hrdlořezy and Tři Facky to Suchdol. Beyond the church and the railway crossing, its section joins the main CC Lužnice route. At 21.5 kilometres, the CC Lužnice is more than twice as long as the 9.8-kilometre Paměti Vitorazska; the routes described also follow different courses. Conditions and markings on both cycling routes may change. Check them before setting out.
On the Water and on a Trail of Discovery
The traditional Odemykání Lužnice tour starts at 10:00 a.m. from the Suchdol boat base near the Klikov bridge. It includes a river trip on the Lužnice starting from Suchdol Nad Luznicí. If you would like to include the tour in your stay, check the event date in advance. Another way to explore the Pískovna lakes is the excursion Za vodníky k pískovnám do Suchdola nad Lužnicí: you search for hidden letters on signs and discover film locations, plants and animals. Programme details may change.
