Kostelní Radouň: Church, Ponds and Nature Trail
Accommodation in Kostelní Radouň
Kostelní Radouň can be explored from several perspectives: the stream and ponds are part of the landscape, while the church, pilgrimage and stone statue offer specific cultural points of interest. The Čertův kámen nature trail adds a marked route. When choosing a destination, you can consider whether you want to focus your trip on local cultural history, landscape features or a walking trail.
Račí potok and the ponds
Račí potok flows through Kostelní Radouň for approximately three kilometres. There are 17 ponds in the cadastral area; the largest, Černoleský or Panský, covers 11.5 hectares. These water features refer to different scales: the stream flows through the village, the pond count applies to the cadastral area, and the largest pond is a specific named body of water. This distinction is useful if you want to relate your impression of the trip more to the route through the village or to the landscape of the cadastral area. Černoleský and Panský refer to the same pond, not two different bodies of water.
Church of St. Vitus and local traditions
The Church of St. Vitus has been a protected cultural monument since 1958. Its furnishings include a Rococo pulpit dating from 1768; it also has a polygonal presbytery with original tracery in the windows. Presbytery refers to the chancel area of a church, while polygonal describes its many-sided shape. Tracery is the decorative division of windows. The pulpit provides a distinct historical reference. Together, these features offer different clues for distinguishing the building’s form from its furnishings.
Another cultural feature is the stone statue of St. John of Nepomuk. It stands between the cemetery wall and the rectory garden. The traditional pilgrimage takes place at a specific time of year: on the first Sunday after St. Vitus’s Day, 15 June. If you are travelling specifically for the pilgrimage, check the local programme for the year of your trip. This lets you use the traditional date as a guide while tailoring your plans to the particular year.
Čertův kámen nature trail
The Čertův kámen nature trail connects Lodhéřov and Kostelní Radouň. It follows an existing green hiking trail marking and is 4.5 kilometres long. Along the route are nine information panels and five sports and play stations. These include swings, balancing and climbing elements, and facilities for high and long jumps. When planning your trip, you can take into account both the trail’s length and its information panels and stations. Facilities may change; check the current status of the trail before setting out.
At 659 metres above sea level, Čertův kámen is the highest point on the nature trail and lies in the so-called Klenovský Massif. The route description therefore includes both a named connection between two places and a specifically identified high point. When weighing up different excursion options, the nature trail offers concrete points of comparison: its length, marking, stations and highest point are all clearly stated.
Radouň circuits
For the Radouň circuits, the event area is located at the edge of Kostelní Radouň in the direction of Okrouhlá Radouň. The race starts and finishes there. If the event is the reason for your trip, check the latest event information in advance, as arrangements may change. This allows you to consider the event venue as a separate reason to travel, distinct from the pilgrimage associated with St. Vitus’s Day and from the village’s landscape and cultural themes.
