Discover Hracholusky
Accommodation in Hracholusky
Discover Hracholusky through two themes: village history and cycling. The village is first mentioned in writing in 1334; at the same time, the named “Na Zlatý potok a hrad Osule” cycling loop passes through Hracholusky. Historic mills, a small church on the spacious village square, and the earth mounds known as “sejpy” along the Zlatý potok add to this picture. This lets you get a sense of the village through specific dates, its appearance, and a cycling route.
Village History Across Several Periods
Hracholusky is first mentioned in a written source in 1334. In 1351, the Rožmberks acquired the village; thereafter, it was administered by the burgrave of Helfenburk. The 1580 urbarium of the Helfenburk estate lists 41 resident households and three millers. These three dates represent different historical perspectives: the first written mention, a change in administrative authority, and finally a snapshot of households and milling.
Village Appearance and Building History
The village square is spacious, with a small 19th-century church dominating it. Farmhouse No. 31, a listed cultural monument, dates from 1846 and survived the great fire that struck Hracholusky in 1866. Most of the village’s farmsteads, by contrast, date from after the fire. Together with the church, these provide two different architectural points of reference: a building that defines the village square and a dated farmhouse whose history reaches back to before the fire.
Mills and Traces Along the Zlatý potok
The history of the mills adds further dates. The Fučíků and Balounů mills—the latter formerly known as Petrášků—as well as the former Hamlýřů mill by the bridge over the Zlatý potok, are already mentioned in the 16th century. On the banks of the Zlatý potok are earth mounds known as “sejpy,” traces of medieval gold panning. The mills and earth mounds offer different points of interest: named mills on the one hand, and traces of gold mining in the landscape on the other.
Explore Hracholusky by Bike
The “Na Zlatý potok a hrad Osule” cycling loop is about 40 km long and passes through Hracholusky. It mostly follows existing cycle paths, local roads, and class III roads; the terrain is moderately hilly. Its length, routes, and terrain offer different points of reference for planning a bike ride. If you would like to combine a cycling route with local history, you can include Hracholusky as part of this loop.
A simple distinction can help you decide what to focus on: the cycling route describes a specific loop through Hracholusky, while the village square, farmhouse, mills, and “sejpy” point to different historical periods. This makes it easier to shape your stay around cycling or cultural and landscape history.
