Pěčnov lies in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains. Its hilly, wooded surroundings, interspersed with grassy areas, give the village a distinct landscape. Two cultural periods also sit side by side: the chapel, built and consecrated in 1873, and the artistic works created in Pěčnov in 2017. Two regional cycling routes pass through the village. When comparing hotel destinations, you can consider culture, landscape and cycling as specific factors in your decision.

Cultural Landmarks in Pěčnov

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary (“Neposkvrněného Početí Panny Marie”) was built and consecrated in 1873. Its exact year of construction places it in time and gives culturally curious travellers a clear point of reference for the village’s history.

Inside the chapel is a folk neo-Gothic altar with statues of the Virgin Mary, Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Leonard. These three named figures give the altar a specific religious theme. Saint Florian is also depicted on the façade of the local chapel. The altar and the façade depiction thus present two different motifs on the same building.

A more recent cultural theme turns to stone: in 2017, an international group of artists met in Pěčnov and carved various images, known as cosmograms, into stones. These works are known as “Pěčnovské kamenné spirály” (“Pěčnov Stone Spirals”). In contrast to the chapel, the focus here is on artistic work and cosmograms; with its year of construction, altar and depictions of saints, the chapel is a different kind of historical point of reference.

Landscape and Cycling Routes

The area around Pěčnov is hilly, wooded and interspersed with grassy areas. If you factor landscape and cycling into your choice of destination, there are two different things to consider here: the surroundings described above and regional cycling routes that pass through the village.

One cycling route is titled “From Vimperk to the Beauties of the Foothills of Šumava”; the other is called “Krajem cestovatele Vyšaty a kolem pošumavských menhirů” (“Through the Land of Traveller Vyšata and Around the Menhirs of the Šumava Foothills”). Both pass through Pěčnov. Their titles highlight different themes: one mentions Vimperk and the beauties of the Šumava foothills, while the other refers to traveller Vyšata and the foothills’ menhirs. When choosing, you can start by considering which of these named themes appeals to you more.

Facilities and Time-Specific Information

The multipurpose pergola in Pěčnov offers covered seating, sanitary facilities and a place to grill. If you plan to use the pergola, check the current reservation terms in advance.

The multipurpose sports court is available seasonally and is set up for volleyball, nohejbal, football and tennis. Its seasonal availability indicates when it can be used, while the sports listed give a concrete idea of what the court is intended for.

Pěčnovská hospůdka is on the ground floor of the Pěčnov municipal office and has 50 seats. Its location in the municipal office and its seating capacity provide two specific details about the local pub.

One further, explicitly year-specific notice concerns 2026: that year, visitors were invited to the XIX Meeting of Small Brass Bands in Pěčnov. This event notice is therefore time-specific, unlike the village and cultural features that are not tied to a single year.
