Drachkov combines local history with a stream, woodland scenery and routes for walking or cycling. When planning your trip, you can choose from a short stroll, longer hikes and a cycling route, each with different distance information. A local specialty and a nearby mill also add a cultural dimension to the nature and trails.

Village History and Landscape

The first written mention of Drachkov dates from November 5, 1318. This date gives the village’s history a specific point in time. Drachkov is surrounded on three sides by forests that border the foothills of the Šumava Mountains.

The Drachkovský potok flows through the village into the village pond, then continues through ponds in the Holi forest to the Otava. Lush vegetation, including tall, robust plants, grows along the banks of its upper reaches. The stream, village pond and forest ponds are all part of the landscape, along with the stream’s onward course to the Otava.

Exploring on Foot

Visitors to Drachkov can enjoy a short stroll lasting no more than half an hour. Unlike the longer hike, this walk has a specific time estimate. A green-marked trail in the area also leads to the 557 m summit of Kamenná Bába.

The longer hike from Drachkov is just under 15 km. The section from Kraselov to Drachkov is about three kilometres long. In the village of Příseky, a side path about 300 m farther on offers a panoramic view to the northeast. This gives you the option of choosing between a short stroll, a route to a named summit and a longer hike.

The distance information can help you plan the length of your outing. Trail and route conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

A Cycling Route as Another Option

Cycling Route 1 is 16 km long and starts and ends in Drachkov. At just under 15 km, the longer hike is close in distance to the 16 km cycling route, but they are different activities. When planning, you can consider the distances alongside whether you would prefer to travel on foot or by bike.

Getting Around and Local Tradition

Drachkov is on the road from Strakonice to Kraselov. The road passes through the Hůl forest and by Lhota u Svaté Anny. The road’s route and other named places can therefore help with orientation, along with the village name.

Hnětynka is a local specialty associated with the Posvícení in Drachkov. Its connection with the celebration adds a culinary tradition to the village’s history.

Nearby, the Hoslovice Water Mill offers guided tours and regular events featuring bread baking and tastings. Other activities include demonstrations of the mill wheel, traditional crafts and agricultural work. The tours, baking and tastings, and demonstrations each offer a different focus for a visit. If you are planning around a specific event, check the latest dates in advance.
