Chotoviny’s cultural attractions include a castle with a neo-Romanesque style, a protected park, churches and a museum of historic vehicles. The area around the town also offers walks and cycling routes, while the Chotovinské slavnosti take place in August. Your trip can therefore focus on cultural history, technology or outdoor activities.

Castle and Park

Baron Nádherný gave Chotoviny Castle its neo-Romanesque appearance. He laid out the castle park in the first half of the 19th century. The park covers 22.5 hectares and is classified as a Category I monument for its high dendrological value. The castle and park offer two ways to explore the town’s history: the castle highlights its neo-Romanesque redesign, while the park tells the story of its origins, size and dendrological significance.

Stations of the Cross and Churches

The Chotoviny Stations of the Cross are located in the woods near the Church of St Peter and St Paul. They consist of 14 stone pillars and culminate at the upper end in a chapel with a shallow niche. The route thus transitions from a series of individual pillars to a chapel-like ending. After decades of neglect, the Stations of the Cross were restored as part of a project by students from Pierre de Coubertin Grammar School in Tábor, with financial support from the municipality.

The Church of St Peter and St Paul was remodelled between 1781 and 1786, and its tower was added during this period. Another milestone in the town’s ecclesiastical history is the Church of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, completed in 1924. Together, these dates mark different periods in Chotoviny’s church-building history: the remodelling in the late 18th century and the completion of a church in 1924.

Historic Vehicles at the Janecký Museum

The Janecký Museum displays around 80 exhibits, including historic vehicles and motorcycles. The museum also organises drives in selected classic cars and offers classic cars for hire, with or without a driver. The collection and driving options offer different ways to explore: you can discover historic vehicles as exhibits or consider a drive or vehicle hire. If you are planning a drive or hire, we recommend confirming the arrangements with the museum in advance.

Landscape and Events

The countryside around Chotoviny is well suited to walks and cycling. This offers a different focus from the historic buildings and museum collection: getting active in the area around the town. The Chotovinské slavnosti are among the most significant social and cultural events in Chotoviny and take place in August. As the exact date varies, check the event dates before your trip.

Parking is available in the square right next to the Church of St Peter and St Paul. Before you arrive, check whether parking there is possible during your visit.
